i have mixed feelings, my friend smokes, and he's the only one i know that will pull over, get a cig, lite it and then keep going. everyone else just digs in their pockets, looking around the car for a lighter. ect. i think its kinda a stupid law ( if it does pass) but i dunno. theres ben time when ive ben a car with my friends and they leave the wheel completly looking for a lighter, under the seat, in the back seat ect. and i quick grab the wheel ( from the other side of the car ) and steer. i dont really care if i get flamed for that last comment, its the truth, kids will be kids. we've never done that on a high-way/ busy road. i live in a very small town, all side streets, most are one way. just somthing to think about. good find.
now when are you getting that exhuast done and sound clip up?

lol exhaust has been done, I just need to touch base with Tim to get the sound clip
and as for the digging for the lighter and cigs, I can understand, but does he stay stopped on the side of the road and finish smoking before he drives? If not, he could get a $100 to $250 ticket for that if this passes!
insane
I don't think the government should be so concerned about that... but, I do think when a smoker throws his cig butt out the window and it bounces on the road and off my hood, his/her smokin' a$$ should get a ticket for littering!!! I was ready to someone for doing that one night when I had the Camaro out. I think the litering aspect is a much more serious issue that needs addressing. Now, some of you may say, "well, it's just a little cigarette butt", but I say "look at all the little cigarette butts on our highways, streets, sidewalks and lawns." BTW,, LD I like your Pun: "the government needs to butt the $%#@ out"...
I haven't read the article, but if they're trying to use the excuse that it distracts drivers (like how loser said his friends leave the wheel looking for a lighter), they'd have to ban a hell of a lot of other things as well.
Diggin for change when coming to a toll..
Talking on the cell phone (already banned in some states)..
Eating..
Using Italian hand gestures while talking..
EDIT: I just read the discussion. Carlson is the man.
it is very stupid. think about how many distracting things there are out there.now, ill be 15 in 6 ( or 7 ? ) days. i dont drive, legally anyway. but when a nice car goes by, im gonna look, and watch. when i see a hot girl, im gonna look.when i see someone i know , im gonna look. ect ect. i can go for days. it just doesnt make sence.music can be very distracting, my brothers ex-g/f used to dance, yes dance, in the car. bounching up and down, shakeing for arms ect. talking can be distracting. hopefully this wont get locked and we can talk about this for a while.

I am glad. Some kid in an early 90s 5.0 mustang slammed into the back of me and my ex last year... he was going about 50 and didnt see that the light just turned green (we were accelerating) and said he wasnt paying attention cause he was trying to light up a cig (which is odd cause the only way not to have seen us or traffic was to drive with his eyes shut or something). He totaled our car and his.

^ that does suck and im glad your ok. but the same thing could have happened if h had a baby in the car, baby drops the rattle its playing/shaking...we all know that baby itsnt gonna stop crying till it gets its darn rattle back. so he turns around for just 1 second and picks it up. think about it? im sure its happened before too.

I see how this law is stupid in many ways and for the most part I think people are wasting their time. But, I have a motorcycle as a daily driver and losing out to a guy digging for cigs is pretty much the worst way to go.
There is fast, too fast, and way too fast. Way too fast is almost fast enough.

If you can't light one up while driving without getting into a wreck, then you're just a retard. You don't even have to take your eyes off the road.
This law is beyond stupid. Why not ban eating bic macs while driving. These people holding a burger in one hand, and a drink in the other, steering with their knees are far more dangerous behind the wheel then some joe smoking his marlboro.
Or wait, here's an amazing concept. Instead of making retarded laws to try and reduce accidents, how about we make getting a license tougher. People over the age if 60 are required to undergo yearly driving and eye tests. Mandate advanced driving courses: How to recover from understeer, oversteer, hydroplaning, emergency manuvers ect. If mary jane joe bob with her 75 ford pickup who never pay attention while driving, didn't pass the driving course, she doesn't get her license.

Here in NJ they ARE looking to ban a lot of other things such as eating/drinking beverages while driving, putting on make-up, ect. This is just the beginning of what's to come. It kind of reminds me of the seat-belt law. First it was a sort of trial/warning thing if you weren't wearing it and now they actually have road blocks set-up to give you a ticket if you're not wearing one!!
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
