• Citi Bank Credit Card warning!

this isnt an email forward and all that crap that u see floating around, this is an issue that has just happened with me.
I have moved out of my mothers house for around 6 months now. All my bills and all my change of address forms are properly filled out. All my phone numbers are updated, and all this was done within the first month or two. My mom started receiving calls from someone claiming they are citibank and my account is unpaid. I called the number on the back of my cc, and they said my account is clear, checked my last statement, same thing.
Well I called the 800 number that they left with my mom and there is a recording telling me that it services like 3 different credit cards and to enter my accound number
riiiigght
I pushed 00000000000000 until an actualy person came on the line
I asked who I was speaking with and what company she represents. She said her first name and that the company is Citi. Just Citi. Not CitiBank, not mastercard, just Citi.
Well I told her I was suspicious of the number because it was different than the number on the back of my credit card. She said well this is Citi, so what is your account number?
I said I am not giving you my account number because I dont think you are "citi". Well then she asked for my phone number to try and bring up my account. When I told her she is like well this isnt showing up on our system. I said thank you and hung up

SO

warning

dont give your cc numbers out to people on the phone :D
duh!
If you are in doubt, hang up, and dial the number on the back of the credit card
best policy no matter what tho is to do that
just trying to warn of possible scammers

Scam artists will stop at nothing to get free $$$ and rip people off. Maybe you should report those calls and that phone number to the real Citibank. Let them have their investigators check it out and arrest the con artist.

Always call the number on the card itself. If there really is an issue with your card, they will tell you.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I tried to, but I got some lady that could hardly speak English and would neither confirm nor deny whether that was one of their actual phone numbers or not idiots
I should probably try again and ask for their security dept or something

Absolutely. I would think it'd be worth trying again. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if I somehow wound up devoting my whole life to the destruction of spammers and other con artists.

Like a crusade... let them all rot.
