• NEWS - Scientists will attempt to recreate the Big Bang

    Yahoo! News

They're building a 17-mile accelerator which will smash particles together at nearly the speed of light. The temperatures created by such explosions will be one billion times the temperature of the Sun's core.

Apparently, this will recreate conditions one-billionth of a second after the Big Bang. This will allow scientists to test theories about particle mass and may even allow them to find so-called "dark matter", which makes up 95 percent of the universe but as yet is undiscovered.

i dunno, i dont like it, they are trying to play God and they are going to **** up. Dont you think its kind of ironic that they named a particle the "God particle"

How can you play God while trying to replicate the Big Bang Theory?

That is the theory that refutes God's existance lol

Only if you're Bible literalist Christian. Not for other Christian and spiritual paths.

They are looking for Higgs Bosons, not necessarily recreating the Big Bang.

well said all they are trying to do is figure out what things are made of. But to get down to the sizes we really really need to be study you would need a particle accelerator about the diametor of the solar system.

Good. Hopefully if they prove it, the hardcore bible bangers will back the heck off.

It gets so irritating listening to people try to discredit one source or the other.

I don't think theres enough prove to prove "God" to be real, nor the big bang, but we have the possibility sometime, maybe in the future, of proving it.

But until Jesus comes down and smacks me upside the head and says, "Yo, I exist", I'm happily cynical in regards to theology.

I agree. Everyone has their own beliefs about God, Allah, Buddah, ect... but dont go pushing it on other "disbelivers".
I myself believe in the Big Bang theory and as Blazing Firebird said: But until Jesus comes down and smacks me upside the head and says, "Yo, I exist", I'm happily cynical in regards to theology.

it was also thought that the atmosphere would explode when the first hydrogen bomb was detonated.

true. and correct me if I am wrong, but I understand that black holes sometimes formed when those particles in the accelerator collide, however they are so small they cannot suck other matter in and therefore collapse into them selves.

Technically that would enforce gods existence. Who has read Angles and Demons by Dan Brown? If so then you know what I am talking about. It is said that God created something from nothing. What are these scientist trying to ultimately do? To figure out how to make something from nothing, therefore proving that the genesis was possible.

                              </font>
I hear you, but as much as we try we can never get back to scratch, I mean even if they "achieve" their "goal", it is all relative because they have mass, they have particles.....which means they are starting from "something", however miniscule-it's still not "nothing". Just can't be done becuase even in a "re-creation" attempt, you are immulating a situation of "nothing" and to do that you are using "items", "particles", "atoms" etc
