Hey Jeff... you wouldn't happen to know a girl named Nicole Nunes or a guy named Seal Kelly would you? LOL They go to school there... been meaning to ask you.
BTW, real estate market is VERY Good right now... my parents' house went up in value by about 100k and I think they bought it for 180k! Which is a kind of high price for that area.Sinister Six©
My \'95 Bird
I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.

For $500,000 you can only find a 2 or 3 bedroom condo here around Boston. :(
It's sooo damm expensive to live around here...
I've seen nice houses in Indiana going for 60 or 70,000.Justin
2000 Black Firebird A4 Y87
170.2rwhp/203rwtq (SAE Corrected)

Candidly, I suggest you do not buy - it is way too expensive. And yes, I do think housing prices will either come down or else flatten out while inflation races ahead (of course, I've been wrong many times before).
As far as affordability, our household income is greater than yours and our house cost way less than $500K-600K and we're still barely making ends meet what with two kids and all.
Using a P&I payment of $2000/month (not counting taxes and insurance) at 6% on a 30 year mortgage, you could get roughly a $335,000 loan. From experience, I can tell you that a loan of thatsize at your income would leave almost nothing left for any other discretionary spending.
The big thing that lenders are pushing now are ARMs (adjustable rate mortgages) or the newest thing - IOs - interest-only loans. I recommend you avoid both.
ARMs - Interest rates are only going up from here.
IOs - Highly risky - You are now mortgaged ot the teeth and have nothing to show for it. You could lose everytthing if you lose your job. I predict a huge problem coming in the banking industry and US economy because of these things. Sometime in the future, there will probably be new laws enacted restricting their use after the problems begin to appear.
I suggest you be patient. One way or another, people will always need to have a place to live - affordability will work itself out over the long term. Don't pay too much by being in a hurry.I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
