"- Mandatory systemwide fees for California resident undergraduates in 2004-05 will increase $700 (14 percent) to $5,684, beginning this
summer. Each UC campus also charges its own local fees, which brings the average total to $6,230."

This is from the President of UCI. He goes on to say:
"When I started as president six months ago, the University already had seen student fees jump 40 percent in just two years. Our State funding had been cut 16 percent, while our student enrollment had grown 16 percent. For the first time, the University was forced to defer admission to qualified California high school seniors and
redirect them to California community colleges for their first two years. The State was asking us to prepare for more cuts, and there was no assurance or plan for turning around these fiscal trends. My greatest concern was that the quality of a UC education was at risk."

Isn't this kind of silly? The budget crisis causing UCs to defer admissions to qualified students, that seems rediculous to me. I guess if there aren't enough resources then not much can be done, but still.. I know I would be pissed of I wasn't accepted because of that reason. Guess you have to be even more qualified to get into a California university now because of the damn budget, it's getting rediculous. I am glad I'll be out of here in a year.

By the way, I am taking 15 units over summer and tuition for those 2 classes was $1915. $126 per unit...

UC's are not alone. Cal States are doing the same.

The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees voted on May 19, 2004 to
approve a State University Fee increase. This increase is prompted by budget
reductions to the CSU. The increased fee will help preserve the quality of
education in the CSU.

The action increases full time undergraduate fees by $144, full time graduate
fees (except teacher credential fees) by $282 and teacher credential fees by
$225. Nonresident tuition will increase by $57 per unit. The increases will be
effective for the Fall 2004 semester.

The new registration fees, effective Fall 2004, including the increase, are as
follows:

Undergraduate Graduate Teacher Credential
------------- -------- ------------------
6.1 units or more $1,329 $1,572 $1,515
6.0 units or less $ 840 $ 981 $ 948

The new nonresident tuition rate per unit effective Fall 2004 is $339 per unit.

When I enrolled in at my university, tuition plus room and board totaled $22,000 (+/-) per year. When I graduated, that had climbed to $34,500. I had long since moved off campus because of the room/board rates. It is a trend all accross the country.

Hey... 126 a unit is cheap, I wouldnt be complaining. Mines 450 dollars a unit. Im taking one class this summer, 4 credits, and its costing me 1800 dollars. Tuition goes up for us like that every year too... A little less steep though. It sucks.

You think that's bad? Look up tuition increases for the university system of maryland (i.e. Terps!).

And it's not Kerry's or Clinton's fault ... as far as I understand, democrats spend money for books not bombs.

time to recalibrate your sarcasm sensors... it's not really anybody's fault. i was paying 1600 a semester, now i'm paying 2300- a freaking great deal in either case. i'm sure you've heard people (rush limbaugh) blaming other people (bill clinton) for their problems before, though their problems have little to nothing to do with those that they are blamed upon.

clinton proposed the biggest military spending increase since reagan in 1999 (for YF22s, comanches, and pay raises for mid level officers and NCOs).

it doesn't matter which party you are, you are in the pocket of lockheed and raytheon.

EDIT: come on man; i know for a fact you're a smart guy. look past the party lines!
