Even though the rx-8 uses the same engine? The only different when in short block for pretty much is the location of the ports. The last time I checked, it still uses a rotary engine, and ALL rotaries consume oil. It's the way they're designed. I guess next someone is going to tell me that synthetic oil is better for a rotary

They are designed differently with the same concept in mind. The renesis is suppose to be an improvement to the 13B design. However your correct on both oil points and the fact that the only MAJOR change is the location of the exhaust ports (old design had a bad port overlap problem, ie: exhaust gases would be recycled into the intake because both ports would be open at the same time). ;)

They also lightened the rotors, leaned out the fuel mixture, reduced fuel consuption at idle, increased the compression, and reduced oil consumption. As you said though, the only real major thing they changed was the port configurations. The rest are nice little things that add to a cool engine

You mean keeping the car from throwing apex seals around like grenade shrapnel? ;) I love those rolling landmines.

I settled for the SRT4 instead.
If I'm not mistaken, LS1's have an oil drinking problem as well...

My boss had a 12 second RX7 and that think flew. He had all kinds of suspension work done to that car, the thing rode like it was on rails.

Plus I love the way rotaries sound

The actual car is a beater, but the engine still runs great. The only time you really run into problems with blown apex seals is when you try to run more than like 14psi on the stock seals (s4 and s5 models)

Also lowering the backpressure on them causes massive boost creep (crappy stock wastegate) which makes the boost spike and the engine goes pop. Coolant issues, hot spots, lots of things make them go pop. However they are awesome cars as long as you actually take somewhat decent care of them.
