Blu-ray initially appears to have the edge over other digital video formats because it has the backing of so many top technology companies. Sony, for one, has announced that it will use Blu-ray discs in the PlayStation 3, set to premiere in 2005. But the movie studios will ultimately play a big role in deciding which format comes out the winner. In the 1980s, they helped VHS beat Betamax in the battle for home video supremacy. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment (a.k.a. Sony Pictures) has already signed on to release its movies on Blu-ray by 2006.

dang 50GB on a disk lol

      Great link, viper, thanks.

I've been meaning to check up on these formats. I know that Pioneer/Sony were heading large teams developing 50-70gb discs, just haven't read about it lately.

So let's see, I have 4 CD burners, 2 DVD Burners, guess I'll just keep adding, and adding, and adding.

I hope this hits the market ASAP. I have 70gbs of music alone I need to backup. Oh, and the Sony unit looks SAWEEETTTTT.

What the hell, ive never even heard of these before. 70gig per disc, and they are made of 51% paper and will be cheaper to produce than a CD?

holy hell, my mind just exploded

It'll take off for databackup solutions. Mark my words.

There IS NO OTHER WAY to backup large sums of data. You can do a HD chain in succession, lame. You can setup a RAID controlled environment, too much work. Tape drive? That's a joke. Welcome to the 80's.

What other way is there for me to backup my 70gbs! NONE.
