holy crap, we have all seen those spam e-mails about "$1 billion in unclaimed funds in your name"
Well there is some truth to them. If you don't cash a check or claim property it goes to a unclaimed funds account or something for every state government.
One of my professors gave us a link for our state FL.
THIS IS NOT SPAM, ITS A GOVENRMENT SITE.

I didn't find anything for me, but I found a lost "unknow property" in my bosses name and I found 2 unclaimed Payroll checks in my brothers name(with my parents home address listed, so they are his) I coudl see them being form $50-600 depending which job he had them from, he has worked alot. I am getting the paper work myself for it, if its a reasonable amount I will call him up and FOR A FEE ;) help him get his money
Check other states you lived in as well. Doing a search on my bro in the state he lives in now, there was a guy with 16 unclaimed accounts, they had the cash amounts listed and it was ~$7,000 total, all from the same insurance company, listed as uncashed checks.
My profesor said one of his student who was jewish found thousands of dollars for his family in unclaimed money reported to New York from Swiss banks, in accounts held by holocaust victims that were killed during WWII and their funds were never claimed.
Worth looking into.
