I had to go to Naval station Great Lakes in chicago to get a class I flight physical. It was my first military experience outside of USMC OCS. My recruiter flew myself and a Corporal into Ohare at 3pm. This is where the fun began.
-We were told to go to the Military liason office at the airport. There was no Liason at the airport
-We caught a shuttle bus to the base. We arrived at a command that had no idea who we were or why we were there. The first words out of the Master Chief's mouth were:"UUUUHHHHHHHHHH"
-HE drove us to the BOQ, where we supposed to be staying. THe BOQ had no idea who we were or why we were at the base.
-We went to McDonalds for dinner. We stood in line for and hour behind hundreds of Navy E-2's redeeming thier monopoly chips for McFlurries.
-The cab dropped us off at the mainside the following morning at 0545, and the MP's told us that the hospital was on the Recruit training side, 1.5 miles away.
-We walked to the correct hospital. we were supposed to be there by 0600. We arrived at 0559 covered in sweat.
-The hospital didn't open until 0730. We waited outside.
-The corpsman doing our physical was Seaman Barbie
I was amazed by the lack of organization. It was really funny though; it reminded me of a MASH episode.
This was the best part: we waited in the hospital lobby from 1100 to 1300 because all of the officers were having a chili cookoff.
