Another reason GM needs to "put up or shut up" in the pony car race.

All Alu frame, big assed tires, huge displacement engine, all the goodies that I have seen when i sat in one :D . supercharge the z06 and it'll blow the mustangs little doors off. and plus, for the money they both want. the z06 is the far better choice, the z06 has no "omg only 7.5k are being made we want an extra 20k!" . b/c its still a ford and its still a mustang, no matter whats under the hood.

I believe that GM has just lost the pony car race, being there is no more pony car within the same price range as the competitors.

WHO wouldn't??? Hell, I'd LOVE one... you buying? My address is XXXX bla lane... I'll take one in silver.. thank you!

Point of the matter is, GM is hurting... they continue to bite the hands that feeds them. While the SUV market was nice...so was the dot com. They NEED to get back to the roots. Ford did that with the new Mustang and nailed it... dead to rights, first time!

GM... well... the word dead comes to mind

Thank you Ryan... I forgot to post that earlier. Prime example! That is a HUGE percentage of GM's work force.

I thought one of the biggest problems with GM was the workforce... High pensions and benefits causing the rise in costs of cars. Like a billion extra over another company.

As for Lutz, he isn't that bad. He hasn't been in long enough to do anything... Only things he has been able to do was copy/bring over the GTO, make the sky and solstice, RWD STS, and he was the one trying to bring back the RWD cars and the camaro.

Another reason GM is going to have a problem at "home" in the midwest (read: DETROIT!) From Autoblog.com.....

Somewhat lost in the (justified) fervor surrounding Rick Wagoner’s announcement of job cuts was another component of the dreaded “cost reduction” pillar. Wagoner said was “the emergence of excellent supply capability in lower cost markets provide[s] us with some real cost savings opportunities”, and stated that GM will be “restructuring [our] purchasing model.” Translated to English, this means that North American suppliers can soon expect to watch as their business moves to low-labor-cost markets such as China. Considering that GM purchases somewhere in the neighborhood of $80 billion in parts annually, it’s easy to see that the loss of even a small percentage of that work will have drastic effects; effects that are perhaps more significant than the planned direct-labor cuts. Things may get especially tough in the Midwest where the Big Three still enjoy relative popularity due to a Buy American attitude, and where automotive component suppliers form the foundation of local economies. It might be difficult for many buyers to convince themselves that purchasing a GM vehicle is best for their financial well-being when GM moves more work off-shore as the “transplant” OEMs such as Honda, Toyota, and even Hyundai continue to increase their domestic content.
Mean while... over in the other camp.....DCX

While the bad news of the day dominated the headlines, DaimlerChrysler announced their intentions to invest $40 billion over the next five years in North America. Michigan, Ohio, and Alabama are the big beneficiaries of this move, which will result in upgrades to Chrysler, Freightliner, and Mercedes-Benz facilities, as well as the construction of a new engine plant as part of a joint venture with Hyundai and Mitsubishi. The announcement came CEO Juergen Schrempp during DCX’s three-day visit to Washington D.C., where they will attempt to exert some influence on federal lawmakers who have largely been silent on the problems facing the domestic auto industry.
Interesting what happens when you actually have a global market structure working.

IF GM could build something very close to that... I would say they have a winner.... I just don't see it happening like that. TOO MANY bean counters

Now come on guys, trucks and Suv's will sell great with the rising gas prices. GM knows what their doing. How I see it, if their so #%#@ stupid that they think trucks and Suv's will make them more money with higher gas prices. Then let them make their gas sucking trucks and Suv's. All I know is when it comes around for me to buy another sports car Ford has my money right now. Unless GM wakes their @$$ up and looks over at what Ford is doing with the Mustang, hint hint making moneeeeeyyyyyyy.

I read about this in I think it was Popular Hot Rodding Mag. I was so  But, then again, if GM doesn't care about sports cars, like the Camaro, and only cares about their trucks and Suv's, then I don't care nor will I be spending my money on GM's products.
