Religion problem

Just to let you guys know that I am a convert to Catholism. Don't ask why, it's too long to write it up here. Before that, I was big time Athiest and before that I was a Born Again Christian Fundamentalist and before that I was a Scientologist and way before that I was a Mormon.

Now I married a lady that used to be a Sevenday Adventist. She never felt connected to the religion so for her to convert to Catholism was easy. But she's only 75% in and not totally in yet. She's learning the church history, Catachism, tradition and stuff and she is liking it a lot.

Now my problem is with her family. They are hardcore 7 Day Adventist. Her dad is one of the Elders and Minister to that church. The topic of religion does tend to come up, esp. when her relatives have a get together and we try our best to stir away from it. If you guys don't know it, 7 Day Adventist have a profound dislike towards Catholism. Her family expresses it really well.

I told my wife to start being honest with them. That we are church goers every Sunday as oppose to every Saturday for them. I could see that it wasn't easy for her. It actually brought her to tears.

I feel like we just openned a whole can of worms. We'll see what happens now. :eek:

If you're talking about being Catholic, its Catholicism. If there's another religion called Catholism, forgive me for being ignorant.

gj telling her to be up front with them. if they really love they will accept her now matter what denomination she follows.

If once she opens up to them, and they are still being dicks about it then I would break off contact with them (you personally), chances are she isnt just gonna up and leave her family.

if they are hardcore enough protestants that they will insult their own daughter then I wouldnt want to be anywhere near em.

Catholic= (n. or adj.)a person who belongs to the universal Christian faith.

Catholism= (n) Roman Catholism. Faith, practice, or affliation to Roman Catholism. Church system, practice, tradition.

I can say I belong to that system which is Catholism. That makes me a Catholic.

I have a dont ask dont tell policy w/ my religion, i dont ask about other people's practices and belifes, and i dont tell about mine. I'd say her family can suck it up and get over it.

In all honesty, I don't see how you have not seen what I see...

Each time you held a different belief system, you probably thought it was the answer...thus the truth. But after the fact, you have a different concept of it.

Yet you have switched around enough to know that that is not so...so how have you not seen Catholism for what it is?

With the number of religous beliefs you have tried...your wise enough to know what I am talking about....not a flame, an observation.

one of my favorite quotes, which incidentally, i don't believe in wholeheartedly either.

don't take this quote too literal, but it means, if you believe too strongly in something, it makes you ignorant.

exactly, (hence why I'm not a nihilist)
which makes the second quote even more solid in syllogism (logic).


nietzche was a western philosophist (though he had a strong distaste for christianity, therefore I admired some of his views), sabbah was eastern.

eastern views are far broader (and sharper) in perspective.

i pick zen over christianity any day of the week; it's a far more practical way of seeing things.

but as they say, "to each his/her own."
