  • Lost my only ignition key to my car....help!!1

Okay.. i lost the ignition key to my car today. AAA said they need the code to my ignition to get the duplicate made..

Where can i find out this key code? would it be on the side of my door?

AAA said they can do it without the keycode but they would have to tear apart my my ignition and it would cost me 125 bucks.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You won't be able to find the value easily. The whole point is to prevent auto theft, so it's not gonna be right there for everyone to see. They've got computers they can hook up to the car to read the value, but that'll be at the dealership.

The dealership has the code, and the key available... they wont give me the code. I can get the key for free from AAA but I have to give them the code. And the dealership charges 38 bucks for the key.. God damn im in such a pickle..and im in so much debt right now...

Got a gun?!?! i'll make them give me that codE!

uhm....u could get a new ignition switch and key from a junkyard for 50 bucks max...then....

                  -Open your hood....
                  -Put battery on slow charge...
-Turn the key on for 10 minutes until the security light goes out....
-turn it off for 5 seconds....
-turn it back on for 10 mins....
                  -off for 5 secs....
                  -on for 10 mins....
-then off and then try to start it....

I know it works with PASSLOCK, but i'm not sure about VATS or PASSKEY....I've HEARD it does...but never tried it....

Also if you go to any car audio/security place, they have a small module that bypasses the passlock, vats or passkey module....it'd still end up costing you about 50 for a used ignition and key, and about 30 for the module....

                  Hope this helps a lil....

The code for the PASS-Key system is stored in the Body Control Module. Changing the ignition cylinder would have no effect.

98 camaro 3.8....yes it is stored in the body control module, but the kid has no key and he's trying to get away without buying a new one for 150 bucks. The only way is to buy a used lock cylinder WITH key....

                            This happened to me once.....

I found a dealer open on Saturday..... ordered 3 igntion and trunk keys.

This past weekend..... I lost ANOTHER set of keys.

I currently have 2 sets.... probably will order another set again.... I'm clumsy :(

And like I said, the ignition cylinder has absolutely nothing to do with it. It simply has 2 contacts to complete a circuit through the key. It's all done in the BCM. There's nothing wrong with his ignition cylinder, and getting a new one would be a total waste of money because it would not solve the problem.
