• Defrag says i have 18% Free Space

I defragged, computer seems to be slow, and problesome.
After defrag i only have 18% free space left, and i wanna delete some things to make that go up.
What things can I get rid of that wont cause me any problems, i dont have any games.. i just have music and pix.. and programs.
Are they some programs i dont need i guess i can get rid of.
Or do i have to do somethin else?.
Thanks guys!

burn the music and pics to cd or dvd. that should free up some space, plus gives you a backup too.

I knew about the add/ remove programs, and alot of them say used frequently, or used rarely.. but doesnt seem to be accurate.
I was just unsure about what programs i can uninstall without causing anything to happen to the windows program.
and as far as i know, backing up my music and pix to cd's would be fine, but i have iTunes, and as long as i want to keep those songs on my iPod, i think i have to leave them on my computer.

no but if i put 1000 songs in itunes, and hook up my ipod, it will take those 1000 songs and add them to my ipod,
now if i delete those 1000 songs from iTunes, next time it's gonna clear those songs off the ipod, cuz it's no longer in iTunes.

So i have a few thousand songs.. and that takes up alot of room.

move all music to esternal hard drive, then tell iTunes where that new location is.

It's good to have a coworker familiar w/that crap. He says there are alos programs out there to get around the ghey sharing firewall things.

Even though that is just like storage space getting full that will still make the computer run slow?

it can, asyou run into the "virtual memory" thing, where windows uses your hard drive to extend the RAM value. Also check into how many programs are running in the background, ad the obligitry Ad-Aware & Spybot scans.

edit: also, if you don't want/need an external hard drive, jsut get a bigger one & slave it for jsut your iTunes

Umm, yeah, there is a setting in iTunes that let's you manually place any purchased song into your ipod. Right now you have it set to automatically sync with itunes. That's not such a good idea if your computer were to ever crash.

Connect your ipod to your computer, select "Display iPod Options" from bottom right hand side of iTunes, and under the "iPod" tab, change the setting from "Automatically update all songs and playlist" to "Manually Manage Songs and Playlist". This will allow you to delete your mp3 files from your Hard Drive, free up some space, and your songs will remain intact in your iPod.

Now whenever you purchase a song or add any songs into iTunes, you will be able to manually move the music files yourself rather than having iTunes sync with the iPod.

You can also try running Disk Clean up in Windows. I'm surprised no one mentioned this.

If you do decide to change it to "Manually", after you delete those mp3 files from the Hard Drive, do NOT re-enable it to "Automatically" because you will lose your music files from your Hard Drive. iTunes will attempt to sync iTunes with the iPod, and since there will be no files in your hard drive, it will wipe out your files from your iPod as well.

Just keep it set to manually all the time.

Get WinDirStat and see if you have any HUGE files hiding places, and delete them. But I sugest finding out what it is before you delete it first ;)

just reformat your computer, just letting windows do its thing for a year or so will make it slow because it corrupts a lot of its own files and puts them places where it forgets, its just best to put on a fresh copy, or just get a mac
