• Just got a Job at Goodyear

I just got a job at a Goodyear/Gemini Service place. I'm starting out as the ***** basicly for 90 days and work my way up from there. I'm kinda pissed b/c I'm onlying going to make 6.50 when they charge $75 an hour for labor. Oh well I need the exp. for ASE and school.

LOL, wait! Wait! You thought that just because they charge $75 for labor an hour, you thought the mechanics got that amount??? Oh HO! That's CLASSIC!

    ;)

My father was a Master Mechanic for over 30 years and never earned that. In fact he usually got screwed out of labor because the owner of the shop (the same one he gave up to spend more time with the family... boy did THAT ever backfire!) wouldn't estimate enough time for the work he'd do. Let's say diagnosing a problem would take 5 hours, the owner would quote 2, and my father wouldn't be able to get as many jobs in as others (these others were just greasemonkeys, no real skills, just did oil changes and brake work, etc.)

Be careful if this is going to be your line of work and don't get screwed buddy.

LOL I know I'm never going to make $75 an hour. I just think its screwed up that I get 6.50. Its only bc I've never worked in the Automotive field before bc my buddy got hired in at $8 and he worked at a quick lube for 2 yrs. But when you think about the store is making mad money when the employees are only keeping 20%

Very true, I do understand your thoughts on the subject. Too bad most shops rush the employees and you can't get your car fixed the first time, hmm? :D

No extra discount on tires and stuff but if its really really dead I can bring my car in and work on it in my free time.

I spent my hole first day scrubbing the floor but it wasn't that bad. Everyone I work with is cool. I think its going to be a pretty kicka$$ job when its all said and done.

Becareful with these types of places... they have a tendancy to fire people for rediculous reasons.

I worked for Firestone/Morgan Tires and I was fired because because I was learning.

Basically, after 3 days. Me having no prior experience with working on wheels. Sure rotating wheels, changing tires, changing oil is simple.

But I am not an expert on every car, I'v changed oil and tires on my cars and my cars only. So I will run into cars that I have problems with getting the filter, or I may have problems locating a tire in the back room. Hell, I was new!

Well, turns out they said I wasn't working fast enough. After 1 and a half week they fired me.

Reason.... I was expected to be more...

Hiring sign clearly stated - No experience necessary

                          Boss was a ricer anyways.
