Just crashed on me last night. When it did, it must have corrupted the hell out of my hard disk, because I couldn't get anything to see it. I couldn't even get windows setup wouldn't even to load.

I was able to fdisk and format the drive, but it still wouldn't mount.

Finally, I disabled the drive in the bios, then turned it back on, and i could finally get to the drive, but the disc space was half of what it should have been. I Fdisked again, and deleted the partitions, and it still showed the disk space as being less then it should. So I turned the drive off and on in the bios again, and now it works and is showing the right size.

Has anyone had this happen before? The drive is about 6 years old, so I think it might be on its way out. Fortunately I was planning on reformatting so I had all of my important files backed up already.

Oh yea, I'm sitting at work, remote desktoped into my machine at home installing all the software again

That's why I have two hard drives, so that when Windows corrups for whatever reason I can boot up from the other one and transfer the files I want. I've had to reinstall and reformat I think three times now, they're pretty much new so I think it was a virus the first two and the last one was because I changed the mobo.

Well, the random reboot issue I think was soemthing that got corrupted in windows over the years. So the hard drive is not why it shutdown. I think the shutdown might have corrupted the hell out of the drive. It passes all the tests, so I dunno.

                    "just get a mac"

No decent racing simulators for the mac. So, no mac for me.

Personally, I'd retire a hard drive after five years or so. Clearly, at that point, you're on borrowed time.

It's likely the other way around. A bad HD caused windows for fail. Unless you are using an old version of Windows (you did not specify), it should never corrupt the HD to the point of hurting the medium.

Your HD failed which is why nothing will load.
