i fixed my ps2 tonight! it wouldnt read purple discs, so i took it apart and fiddled with the laser voltage screws, and now it will read the purple ones, but only in the vertical position. i think the reason for this is it takes 4-6 volts less to run a disc in the vertical position.

sounds like you all have the First Gen ps2(I had)they last a year and then they start showing problems like not reading purple disc's,then they start not reading disc's at all.$Ryan$
95 3400 Teal Green FireBird M5
Mods: see link http://lowrider.cardomain.com/id/mystical420
1986 Gold Mazda B2000 ROTIP :)
*New*74 Moded 350 Chevy Pickup

It wasn't necessary to open it up, I had the same problem and called Sony. They had a class action lawsuit against them so they're required to fix the problem for free. I sent my PS2 into them and got it back working great in less than a week.1996 Pontiac Firebird: A4, Flowmaster 80 Series, dual 3\" Stainless Steel tips, SLP CAI, Alpine CDA-9813 deck, Infinity speakers, Alpine Type R sub, MTX Thunder 801d amp, Tsunami 2 Farad Capacitor.
http://www.cardomain.com/id/firebirdfury

When I called them for that not long ago, the douchebag's told me it would cost 119 bucks and would take over 6 months.

we've had to adjust the little white gear many times to keep ours reading discs.....this laser voltage trick sounds neat though.1998 Chevrolet Camaro L36 M5
1982 Toyota Celica Supra 7MGTE project car - FOR SALE

\"I find the most sensual part of the woman is the boobies.\" - Zap Brannigan
