• i fixed my ps2!

i fixed my ps2 tonight! it wouldnt read purple discs, so i took it apart and fiddled with the laser voltage screws, and now it will read the purple ones, but only in the vertical position. i think the reason for this is it takes 4-6 volts less to run a disc in the vertical position.

vert is supposed to be bad for the ps2. when mine broke I just repositioned the laser. There's web sites all over the net, because its a pretty common problem.

i've heard vertical isnt as good, it read my disc though. i messed with the laser position first, but it still didnt work, so i moved on to the voltage screws.

sounds like you all have the First Gen ps2(I had)they last a year and then they start showing problems like not reading purple disc's,then they start not reading disc's at all.

It wasn't necessary to open it up, I had the same problem and called Sony. They had a class action lawsuit against them so they're required to fix the problem for free. I sent my PS2 into them and got it back working great in less than a week.

When I called them for that not long ago, the douchebag's told me it would cost 119 bucks and would take over 6 months.

So no, I fixed mine myself .

we've had to adjust the little white gear many times to keep ours reading discs.....this laser voltage trick sounds neat though.

do you still have the site that told you how to play with the voltage regulator, for future references... or do I have to google it?

What number did you call to have the PS2 sent to their facility??? Mine is acting up also. I have the old (skyscraper) version PS2.
