What do you pay for insurance? I figure there's quite a few bike guys here that could help me out. I've been thinking about getting a bike, and with the weather getting so nice and gas prices soaring it's looking like a good idea, big factor will be how much insurance is. And yes I know they're dangerous I plan on getting a small cc used bike just for that reason.

I'm 25 with a clean driver's history and good credit (this is also factored in with getting quotes, especially on progressive.com) and I've gotten 12 month quotes on a few bikes.

2000 Bandit 600S: $350's
2000 Bandit 1200S (i.e. the DonorCycle): $460's
2000 Suzuki GS500E: $340's

This is without medical coverage (the military pays for all my medical) and $500 deductibles. Yours may be significantly higher depending on your location and chosen coverages. Oh yeah, and for the record, I'm a "Learner" motorcycle guy... :D

30 with clean record, full endorcement and good credit

1998 YZF600r: 380.00/yr

This is for liability standard, and HIGH personal protection (300K) for all those bike snipers here in Detroit.

I look at it this way.. for a used bike... and something I can fix if i just lowside it, no biggie... but if I'm put in the hospital, I better be covered and hell with the bike... I'm sure it will be totaled.

23, Clean Record

2004 R6 with just liability: 100 some bucks a year. (Cheap enough that I forget)

Full coverage is like 1800 something.

I dumped progressive because it was considerably more than what I have now. (Once again, name slips the mind as does the price)

27, clean record, good credit (yes that plays a factor),
liability, pretty decent limits for a bike
uninsured motorist coverage (lots of bums with no ins around here
v-star 1100 custom
about $400 per year, would have been cheaper if I had my car with them also, had car with progressive, they waned 3 times that for the same coverage on a bike.
Paying over a grand a year on a bike with a book value of around 5k is kinda silly in my book because just about any decent wreck will total it.

oah edit for this: on that same note I was gonna say if there is anyway you can avoid financing the bike so there is a lien on the title then do that, I used an Amex check that carried 3%apr for the life of the loan. That gave me title free and clear, this has made life much easier and cheaper!
