as far as me being too immature to be a manager, maybe its true. i dont think it is, but maybe it is. ive always had natural leadership capabilities.

so lets say that i am being ridiculous about jon...lets say i stop saying anything bad about him. i will still hate him. i know he is a douche bag. he cheated on his best friend of 14 years. started banging his girl....

    well...im really confused...
wait, you talked to your manager, then he went to jon? that doesn't sound like a good manager to me. you're john's manager, you go to him yourself. also, just because you're one of those people that naturally would jump out and say "I'll go first!", or "I'll be the leader!", does not mean you are a good leader. You say he cheated on someone? Although i don't support cheating, that's not related to the job. it's all about the job, if it's not, then you have nothing validly against him.

While that might be true, don't think that you're invaluble. You're very easily replacable and you still can get sh*t. I used to be the absolute best empoyee at my job. Constantly doing more then I was suppose to, and look where it got me, passed over for promotion twice.

Remember something, you are completely EXPENDABLE. There are extremely few people that are not expendable at one point or another, no matter how well you are at a job. The whole attitude you must take is that you can do better, no matter how good you think you are.

i am really focused on being the best worker there. i have been since i became a manager. i always make sure the store is closed up perfect and i always go the extra mile on everything.

i agree that my manager shouldnt have gone to jon like that, but i shouldnt have either. i dont create a work disturbance with jon, if my manager hadnt told him i dont like him he owuld have never known at all. its not like i said "shut up co(k f^g." i never treated him differently and i never talked down to him, i just never talked to him at all.

so you guys are saying i should learn to get over disliking jon or move on?

im kindof getting mixed replies i think.

also: im not the kind of guy that would fire jon for not liking him.

Try to understand the guy, make him a bit more human in your mind. Understand that you've got flaws that people don't like either, and try to put yourself in his shoes.

If you cannot fix the problem this way, ignore your feelings and just worry about the job as others have suggested. You've got the right idea, just put it in motion.

Best thing you can do is just deal with this guy. You firing him or you moving on to something else isn't going to change anything. You, along with everyone else in here at some point or another, will have to learn to work with people that you don't like. But remember this, work isn't a social gathering. Whether you like someone or not isn't the point of going to work everyday. You go to get paid, either for fun money OUTSIDE of work, or like the most of us, money to simply survive. I have told every hiring mamager I have ever worked for, "I don't come here to make friends, I come here to get paid". I work as hard as I can, but I don't worry about the next person. Whether they work harder or are lazy as hell doesn't matter to me, and whether I make friends with them or not is even more irrelevant.

Now if the email you have posted is a direct quote of what your own superiors have said, you have taken it to a personal level, which like Steve said can be a bad move. VERY bad. Management looks upon things like that, and in order for you to ever move up, they MUST be able to stand back knowing that you will handle every situation to the best of your ability, without involving personal feelings to get in the way.

Personally, and not to be completely rude or pessimistic, but if you have an employeee that "rubs" you the wrong way, witout provocation in any way whatsoever, you have no business being a manager of anything. At some point or another there will be an employee that will come along and exploit the fact that you involve your personal feelings into the decision making process, and your superiors will find out, putting you in a very difficult situation. I know, because I am one of the people that LOVE to exploit those types of managers. I think that you may be a good manager, but your human relations with fellow employees is somewhat lacking. I think you need to be much more professional, and I do think you can be.

so you guys are saying i should learn to get over disliking jon or move on?
Honestly, you may have to do both, maybe not immediately, but at some point in your life. If we all liked the people we worked with, it would be called a party, not a job.

"so you guys are saying i should learn to get over disliking jon or move on?

im kind of getting mixed replies i think."

No mixed message here, but I may p*** you off. You're young and this situation is understandable, but you have to actively learn how to work well with people you don't like or it will kill you professionally.

Also, your feelings will have a bad impact on you physically and mentally.

It's really hard work to solve this problem, but the above facts should motivate you.

                    Two ideas:

If you know a manager you trust, ask them if they can help you with a problem. Lay it out and then _listen_ to them without interrupting.

Really tough one. Get with Jon. Ask him what he thinks needs to be done so that you two can work together better. Then, _listen_ to him without interrupting.

Simply moving on won't solve anything, this will happen again. Working in teams with a wide variety of people is a fundamental job skill for success. At some point you'll want to take a training course or courses about it.

dont worry, nobody pissed me off. im very hard to get under my skin, which is why i dont know how jon does it. because almost nothing bothers me. also for whoever said i was goin go to be trapped in a difficult situation. not likely. ive never been socially trapped as i have less restraint on what i would say in a such a situation. frank you might call me. oh well. whoever said to make jon more human in my mind, that is really helpful. thats what im doing rite now. i think ive got enuf advice now. thanks guys
