I hate to say it man, but those are some pretty poor marks on 3dmark for the hardware you have.
I can pull around 15,000, can't remember exactly haven't done it in awhile.
Here's my system config
Athlon XP 2800+ (barton core)
1 gigabyte DDR400 RAM
Nvidia Geforce FX5800 ultra video card
Asus A7N8X mobo.
Go into your video card settings, see if you can find a setting for anti-aliasing: turn it off, that will help your results significantly. Go to task manager and end any unneccessary processes that suck up CPU usage. You did run the 3dmark benchmark on the default settings didn't you?
