  • pontiac fiero?

my little bro is looking to get one. im trying to talk him out of it.. but he is pretty set on wanting one. there is a 1985 rebuilt fiero (i thought they started in 86.. oh well). rebuilt engine, rebuilt automatic tranny, everything redone in 2000. painted in 2002, only 35,000 on the new rebuilt engine.. total of 175,000 as a car. the guy wants 6K.. too much. but is this car worth it? the kbb on this car was like 1,400 and thats using the 3,500 miles..

anyone know anything about these cars?

Yes, Pontiac had some problems with these cars....they had
engine dept fires so it would be good to carry a fire extinguisher in the cabin.
This car competed with the MR2 by Toyota. I had one and drove this 1985 MR2 to 110,000 miles without problems

He should go with the MR2.

they can be fun little cars, I'm guessing however the one he is looking at has the old iron duke for an engine. I'd stay away from one that old. Try to stick to the last year or 2 they were made if he want's a fiero. Either way it's going to be the kind of car that there will ALWAYS be something broken. Just the nature of a car that old.

        84-88 they were built.

If he is going to get one tell him to get a 88 GT, they had the lotus built suspension and handled VERY well. Otherwise I wouldnt waste my time.

If your brother is mechanically inclined and can fix what goes wrong, then he can have fun with them.

My brother in law had one, and it was in mint condition, the car was prone to mechanical problems though.
Ive also heard about the engine compartment fires. he had a fire extinguisher with him although im not sure whether he had a fire or not.

I love Fiero. I saw a candy apple GT just yesterday. It was in mint condition and very good looking. It drove next to an MR2(Fiero copycat) and it's definately way better looking.

Fiero does have a history of rupturing fuel line. But I think that got resolved in '86.

I would go for the '88 Fiero GT because that's the best built Fiero with the Lotus suspension.

Be warn though. You can't take a Fiero to a grocery store or to the airport.

Get it, and do an L67 swap :D A stock l67 in a fiero will get you 12's IIRC.

I think the fire problem was fix in 85 I have been looking into getting one again and I would just stick with 86-88. My first car was an 86 fiero and to this day has to be the funnest car I have owned and it was just the 4 cylinder.

GM built the first two years of the cars very poorly and underpowered. Then they made the latter eyars very good, but the damage was done - the car's initial quality problems created an image that the later very good quality cars could not overcome.

I suppose by now all the problems of the 85 have been worked out, but still the 86-88's are the better ones.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

If your bro is willing to spend $6000. Tell him to get the '88 Fiero. I just bump into a guy that own both '86 and '88. He confess that '88 is the best year for this car.
