eric, i was thinking in terms of putting 350+ brake through a WRX tranny/diffs vs. that same amount through a 4T60E. what i meant was that the 4T60E would live through that experience better than the WRX tranny- "putting it to the ground" was a poor choice of words.
i know what i meant
i cannot stand the feel of a WRX transmission compared to the T56 or even T45... but we might as well compare apples to apples since neither of those trannies are available in a GTP. in this case i would rather leave the shifting up to the automatic, which is pretty unusual for me...

WRX vs GTP
I'd go with the GTP
Unless it is the WRX STI which is quite amazing.
The standard WRX is a bit poopy, and upgrading a turbo and an intercooler on a stock turbocharged engine is a real pain in the *** and quite expensive, because you will basically need to replace your whole turbo system.
Which is why the EVO and STI are great options because you dont need a new turbo to make a 12 second pass.
The GTP offers a good aftermarket and for the same ammount of money you will drop into a foreign WRX, you will get the same results from the GTP.
But fi you can afford the STI, go for it

Hmm, you guys know that I drive a "GTP" but it's hiding in old man clothes. Honestly, try to drive over 1000 miles in one shot without stopping for anything but fastfood and gas in both cars and tell me how you feel riding in the WRX...
OTOH, try driving an autox with a GTP...
It's all about preferences and what you're going to use it for. I personally feel that I will HAVE to have at least one car in my inventory with seat warmers... I'm soooo spoiled by them now.
Here's the solution: Just buy one of each! ;)
As for the tranny being "weak" on the GTP-style vehicles, JohnD got it right: how much torque do you want one to handle without breaking?Check out my stable of supercharged W-Bodies HERE
\'97 Pontiac GP GTP Coupe
\'98 Regal GS | L67 3800 Series II

for me I enjoy a car that is fun to drive... FWD and auto don't scream that to me.
I know they are "different" cars, but drove a 94 GTP 3.4L dohc plenty of times and that thing sucked, you woudl give it gas on a corner, and jesus, think turned into a tire smoking snowplow.
its fun a few times but gets old... I was much happeri in my 94 camaro with 55 less hp, and its RWD, and manual tranny.-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251

Oh yeah, BOTH vehicles require premium. My wallet begged me to inform everyone of that... ;)Check out my stable of supercharged W-Bodies HERE
\'97 Pontiac GP GTP Coupe
\'98 Regal GS | L67 3800 Series II

Both cars are nice, but I would pick the GTP for everyday living. And if I feel the need for speed, I could always take out the 69 and smoke both of them anyway.69 Camaro 350 4spd, Full Hotchkis susp, Baer brakes, moser 12 bolt, Flowmaster

96 RS Hotchkis STB, subframe connectors, Hotchkis LCA and adj Panhard rod, SS camaro sway bars, Bilstein shocks, powerslot rotors, Borla exhaust, rksport headers, k@nFIPK

Dude, its a rally car. That's why it has AWD for more traction in the dirt. It's design is for offroad. That is the purpose of AWD.
AWD doesn't make turning and salom any easier.
If this was true the corvette would be AWD.
If anything AWD is great for launching. Or driving in the snow. or areas where traction is an issue. Not for endurance racing.

WRX's are slow, I beat stock ones from a DIG and modded from a roll. Go for the GTP, put a better pulley on and run 13s already :-p The only way I'd get a WRX is if I had some sick offroad places I could take it \'99 SSM Camaro V6 M5
(mod list on cardomain site; too long to list here)
http://www.cardomain.com/id/v6cam99
