LOL, We're getting about $360. No, I didn't forget a zero, we just had 2 deductions this year, and we don't own a house, nor have custody of her daughters. Fun... :D

Last year we got $1800 back. This year, I don't know. I was in a tax free area for four months, and my wife was in school full time. She didn't work once, so I'm clueless

Too bad I'm puttin it all away for my new house though. No new wheels and SLP "Firehawk" suspension for me yet :( . But atleast I'll have a nice, new house.

I fail to understand why all of you are so happy about getting back large refunds. It's your money. You earned it, and you let the government earn interest revenue off of it while you could have been earning it yourself.

The key is to balance your withholdings so that you end up coming out even. My gripe earlier was that I base my withholdings on my expected federal taxes due for that year, but it never seems to be enough to cover New York State taxes, which seem to raise constantly. Makes me angry.

no one "let" the govnt earn interst off of it, i'd rather them take it before i ever have my hands on it, than have to write a check to them at the end of the year

I for one would rather "feel" like i'm getting somthing back than have to pay at the end of the year. I realize either way i'm loosing the same amount of my pay. but getting a check feels better than sending a check nomatter how you look at it

That's a big negative. Child tax credit, plus HOH status. I didn't know I could file HOH this year at the begining of the year. I only paid the gov't 3k ;)

If you are getting a refund you have given the government an interest free loan.

It is best to just claim enough deductions on your W-4 so you come out nearly even.

Although if you like giving the government an interest free loan I guess that is your business...

Does no one find it odd that if you have to pay in and you can't afford to pay it all at once they charge you interest, but they don't pay you interest when you have paid in too much and they give you a refund?

A tax refund is NOT a good thing. That means you have paid in more than you need to. Do yourself a favor and claim enough to get that money in your check and then put it in a savings account, 401K, or something. Then at least you are gaining interest on your money.
