    for being so blatanly reckless.
80 mph is hardly "blatanly reckless" (unless it was in the middle of rush hour traffic or something). Here in NE the speed limit is 75. Why is it safe to do 75 here but on 55 in MD? (unless it was an urban area of course, in which case I understand).

I don't really understand the two tickets either. Looks like he gave you a negligent driving for doing 25 over and then the speeding. That just doesn't seem right. I single action of speeding shouldn't bring multiple offenses. Now if you were swerving through traffic cutting everyone off as well as speeding I could understand. However, from your description he had you doing 80 mph and the act of doing 80 mph brought two charges, that just isn't right.

i think what she got was a speeding and then a driving wrecklessly ticket. there is no such thing a ticket for going 15 or 20 over. that when you get your car taken away or you get arrested ;)

</font>[/QUOTE]speed limits are set by engineers. why does the speed limit go from 75 to 65 on the same road just cause its getting into the city. it probably does it cause there are more people, and more people trying gt off on the same exit, or getting lost or just whatever. there are reasons for speed limits

How is getting a wreckless driving ticket and a speeding ticket double jeopardy?

I have been cited for 30MPH over the speed limit and didnt get arrested or have my car taken away.

I drive 90MPH to work every morning and I'm barely going faster then all the traffic on the road. Most people go 80-85

it's one offense. if speeding is what caused the reckless driving, then speeding is the offense, not reckless driving. if reckless driving entailed speeding, then it would be reckless driving.

that's because you live in texas. you cannot be arrested for speeding unless you refuse to sign the citation. to be charged with reckless driving, there must be a wilful and wanton disregard for the safety of others. the mere offense of speeding doesn't generally lend itself to a wanton disregard. grossly speeding, as in 130 in a 40 could likely lead to a charge of reckless driving. it depends on how well the officer can articulate the 'wilful and wanton disregard'.

Exactly. I posted something similar above, but you articulated it better.

Actually, if I recall correctly speeding is the only traffic offense you can't be arrested for in Texas. Every other traffic offense is an arrestable offense (headlight out, etc). I believe that is what my friend told me (was an officer in Texas for 7 years).

Anyway, to the original poster. You might want to check with a local lawyer about getting two tickets for one offense. Just doesn't sound right to me.

GOOD CHRIST!!!!!! Ok... i was on RT. 100 here in maryland which connects all the major baltimore beltways... they speed limits go from 65-55 to 65 to 55 again.

Like i said i admit i was speeding but so was the camry beside me that i was trying to get around to get into my lane for my exit.

I got 2 tickets. one for negligent driving for going 30 over and the other for just plain speeding.

Now... the officer was unprofessional because he pulled me over asked for my registration and license. then asked me to get out of the car. He then made me follow him back to his car and stand at his drivers side door while he wrote me my ticket. He also is a MD state trooper and took his hat off while sitting in the car. (is that against the full uniform regulation?) We started talking and he saw that i was not from the area and said he knew some people in the barracks of my home town. We knew some of the same people that's when i mentioned that my uncle went to the academy with a few of them and he said, " well see, if you would have told me that before i started writing your tickets i would ahve let you off." That really urked me. but that is the story.

And F U ALL who say you never facking speed. It makes me a proud fbody owner to know that you all are driving yours like grandmas.

Well I am not sure why that is unprofessional. Maybe a little unsafe though.

Anyway, if I were you I would really check into the legalities of two charges for one offense as mentioned above. You should get charged with one or the other. Of course maybe Maryland has some odd statute that allows that.
