Ronald Regan dead at 93

Thank God for putting an end to President Reagan's suffering and the suffering of his family. In his death we should rejoice in his passing into the arms of God. he was indeed a great leader, and lead our country out of the doldrums of the late 1970's, in his 2 terms of Presidency inflation dropped, the jobless rate decreased, and the military became strong again. Yes he had his ups and downs as President, but in all the public viewed him as a great leader. So let's not tarnish this man and respect him as a former leader of our country.

I was appalled at some of the disrespectful replies in this thread, those of you who made them should be ashamed of yourselves. President Reagan, whether you liked him or not, more than earned the respect of everyone in this nation. He served as our nations leader for 2 terms. You can at least have respect for the dead.

Reagan was just like any other president -- he had his ups and downs. Remember Iran/Contra?? Good ol' Ollie North? He was just a man who wanted to do his best at being our nation's leader. And he did the best he could. IMO, he did alright. No better -- no worse than LBJ, Nixon, Carter, or any of his predecessors.

I hear you, every term there are things that "happen" when someone is in office and we either blame or beautify them for it, most of the time they had no immediate impact. Not kocking regan @ all or even Bush for that matter, but the events that took place at the time of their administrations were a COLLECTIVE effort, or lack thereof. I'm not happy or sad the man is gone, but I'm sure some people are-and for them I send condolences. But you guys get all torn about someone you had no bond with, get real. You son's of Bi#@es forgot about the dude the days before he died, you remembered him when you found out he passed, plain truth. Bush is an idiot, we all know that-but he is OUR president (unless you live in Florida) and I respect him for that, so I cant wish him dead, just out of office forever. Bottom line, you can't take away from Regan's accomplishments, nor can you try to defend them when you looked them up on the web after finding out someone was giving their opinion on him and you forgot the dude's heart was still beating the day previous

Without having to do an internet search...how many of you can even recall ONE of Reagan's accomplishments? Actually, I knew that. Notice in my previous post how I said he HELPED to end the cold war. Of course he didn't do it all by himself. Actually, Mikhail Gorbachev's policies of Glasnost and Perestroika had more of an impact on the collapse of the Soviet Union than Reagan did. Just because Reagan didn't end the Cold War by himself you're talking **** to people that say he contributed to it? Whatever man.

My point (buried as it may be) is that many -- NOT ALL -- of the members on this board are basing their thoughts and opinions about Reagan on what they have seen or heard or read in the last 48 hours. Many of you -- again NOT ALL -- know about Reagan through your history books that you may or may not have completely read or comprehended in between passing notes and trading cards to your pimply-faced Yugi-Oh buddies.

Whereas, many of us on the board LIVED through the Reagan years and had parents who were directly impacted by many of the events that took place during the 80's.

This country was not handed to us we did have to fight for it, maybe you need to take a history lesson to remind you. All of our freedoms are due to the men that have fought for this country all along. If your not willing to fight for the rights you have why dont you leave.

Oh, also, they had a REASON to fight and die. Whether it was WWII, The Revolution, or the War of 1812, it was a pretty unified front that ALL ameicans supported. Vietnam and Iraq are pretty similar in that we don't really have any reason to be there, the public there hates us, and most people see how asinine it is in the first place. You notice that we draft only when there is no reason to fight? Look at Vietnam? Look at Iraq? When we have a reason to fight, no need for a draft.. hell, WWII killed hundreds of thousands of Americans.. and never a draft. There's a reason for that.
