You are probably not going to get pulled over by visual speed alone, it is mearly an aid; unless there is another violation: seatbelt, etc.

Also, officers at least in Ohio, are trained to estimate visual speed within 3mph consistantly for certification.
Most officers rely on probable cause to stop a vehicle: no front plate, speed, reckless op., etc. I am basing my knowledge on Ohio laws.

Also laser detectors do work. I can vouch for that, i've been hit many times with lidar. IF your hitting at 100' then yea, it might not set the detector off. But at 1000' the beam is 3' in diameter and which is plenty large enough for the beam to stray and hit the detector.2003 Zinc Yellow Mustang GT 1 of 701
ET : TBD
But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun! Yeah, and his shenanigans are cruel and tragic. Which... makes t

Why get a cheap radar detector? If you are going to put your trust in one may as well get the best out there. Getting a cheap radar detector is like wearing half a condom.
You want the Passport 8500 (made by Escort). They just released a new version of it (maybe called XP?).SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)

Yes the LIDAR (I'm impressed of your knowledge) beam does spread. I'm not saying it doesn't, but my point is most LEO's aim toward the front plate (if available) which is usually out of range of the detector. Some pulses may reflect and redirect or directly hit the surrounding area of the windshield causing the detector to go off. I'm not saying the detector can't detect it. Detectors work good for radar, but LIDAR is a gamble.-Do the F-Body wave; when I wave, wave back!
