• You would think I wouldn't have any more mother ****ing spyware, but nooooooo......

I was sitting here *attempting* to play a game of Warcraft 3 when I was getting hounded by spyware and pop-ups, one after another making my gaming experience quite miserable.
So...
I make ALL cookies on a prompt basis. I make ALL active X scripting on a prompt basis.
I reboot in safe mode.
I run Ad-Aware.
I run HiJackThis.
I run Spybot.
I run PestPatrol.
I reboot and load windows normally... I GET A MOTHER ****ING POP-UP WITHIN 10 ****ING SECONDS OF HAVING MY COMPUTER ON!

I have now installed ZoneAlarm Pro... we will see if closing off every ****ing port on my ****ing computer will block those cocksucking bastards from putting **** on my computer.

What has this ****ing age come to... I pay $40 a month to use the ****ing internet and these *******s have to find the most devious ways to put THEIR ****ING LAME *** PROGRAM ON MY COMPUTER WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. If their program ****ing sucks so much they have to turn it into a ****ing VIRUS maybe they should find a new business!

I agree that junkware / spyware/ spamware / pop ups / etc are nothing more than commercial viruses. Why the other viruses get so much attention while these things run amok with no limits makes no sense to me.

What really does not make sense to me is why these companies put such aggressive software out there. Do they really think anyone will be inclined to click thru the ads to buy or be at all inclined to use the products/services when the junkware is crippling the computer?

One possible answer is some junkwares are trojan horses. They offer so-called spyware protection that does nothing of value except work with the junkware that they themselves installed on your computer. They infect you and then offer to sell you an alleged cure that may or may not work.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I have a router and ZoneAlarm Pro, cable connection on Comcast, Norton AntiVirus. Never had any spyware.

Wonder why my system is just immune? I surf piracy/other questionable sites every now and then. When I go to www.symantec.com and do the "security check" everything comes up in the green.

What pisses me off even more... is my older neighbors, who let their computers just get overtaken by this adware, and they come bothering me to fix it. This goes for the little brothers and sisters too, who click on anything flashing and download all sorts of crap... Ive got better things to do than worry about spyware!

easiest way to keep most if not all spyware off your comp is to download...

"Spyware Gaurd"
And
"Spyware Blaster"

Goto google and search.

It stops spyware by not letting it alter your internet explorer. It stops spyware from making unauthorized changes to your registry. It also blocks autodownloads.

Stephan, you will get spyware if you visit alot of dirty websites. Zonealarm protects you from other unwanted computers connecting to your computer, or malicious programs that are already on your computer sending out data. Zonealarm will block them. But anytime you open a port, you are vulnerable. Also, if someone spoofs their IP and uses yours, and your firewall is not setup properly, an attacker may be able to walk right through your firewall. Because the firewall may think that the spoofed IP is your own computer

Infact the most powerful firewall for windows is the built in windows firewall. Reason why? Because its totally customizable and works at a system level. The problem is no one wants to take the time to learn how to use windows firewall. Its much easier to download a 3rd party and click through everything. 3rd party firewalls usually make it easy by just asking if you want this computer or that computer to connect, and then you have the option to block it. But This isnt very secure. Unless you set up the 3rd party firewall with specific rules in the options. Which the windows xp firewall is all based on. Specified Rules!

Now...

Many other spyware programs do not place popups. They gather information from you. Basically take up your system resources and log what you do online. Some infact take control of your browser and flood your registry with garbage. To make it hard to uninstall the spyware. Some use your windows restore options to hide in. They use cab files and also use themselves as plugins in your windows programs, which makes them impossible to remove without killing the process or rebooting. Well, if certain windows programs need to be running and you try to delete the declaration plugin file. You cannot you will an access denied, file is running. We have yet to see the worst of spyware. There is some spyware that has emerged within the past few months that many techs recommend you delete your OS, and start fresh. Because programmers are writting these spyware programs to dig very deep within the windows OS. and because windows is such a fat obese hog, it makes it very very very hard to rid yourself of complex newer spyware applications that basically embed hundreds of changes. Windows has become the perfect OS to harbor programs that manipulate the OS startup functions and restore functions.

smart-finder.biz was one of the first of the worst to hit about 3 months ago. There is some other nasty ones that are being released soon.

I used to NEVER have a problem, no matter what I did.
I am running ZoneAlarm Pro right now, and it hasn't helped with the pop-ups.
I also did that security check and passed all the little sections... I don't know wtf is wrong.. I think there is something on my computer the search programs can't find, or something maybe in my MBR that installs when I boot... the only thing I can think of when I run 4 different programs to clear my hd and the same things come back.

its getting old.

you know, i've spent all kinds of money on programs that promise to block pop-ups and when they don't, you can't even return it because you opened the box or already downloaded the program. my computer used to get so many pop-ups that it would lock up and i would have to reboot every 10-15min... so i was searching google one time and i found their toolbar for internet explorer and what do you know? it blocks pop-ups. and it's free. i've spent all kinds of money on programs that promise to block these damn things, but the ONLY thing that's ever worked for me is the FREE toolbar from google HAHA! i was so pissed.

there really is an easy fix for this problem...
Buy a damn Macintosh!

I've NEVER hate any issues that you PC guys have with spyware on my Mac

Now... the image of 95batman has up... is NOT us doing anything with spyware. You need to look at the instructions of your software. We use cookies for the board, that is IT. there is NO spy where in them, NO tracking of information, NO desturctive stuff. We don't even use pop-ups for ads. Those are built into the board pages so no one whines about it like other sites.

And the Google blocker bar.. that is it's own spyware. In "corporate America", we remove anything that is not installed by us when a user complains "my machine is running slow" and explain that they are causing the slowness by installing NON-corporate authorized software. That goes over like a fart in church.. but there machine runs much better without Weatherbug and those silly things.
