I have a really good friend of mine that likes to hang out at my place (52 in tv and surround sound will do that to your friends) problem is, he is allergic to my cat!
He takes like 2 allegra pills, and still is sneezing and all watery within 10 minutes
is there anything that will reduce the effects on him?
I hate him being miserable everytime he comes over!
I have heard the shoots for allergies work really well. I use to have really bad reactions to pollen and cats, but I grew out of it. Other than medication the only this you personally could do is just vaccum and maybe leave the windows open for fresh air.

yeah I think I'm doing what I can now, I was just thinking if there was something I could spray to bring it out of the air
I looked it up online, and they said to give your cat a bath once a week since allergens are in saliva and they lick themselves to keep clean

bath once a week? that cat will HATE you. lol.... its fun to watch them when they are wet though.... every two steps ours stops to shakes his back leg trying to get the water off.
I dont think there is much else you can do....

What people don't understand is they're not injecting you with some wonder medicine. They're injecting you with everything you're allergic to. The idea is to help you build up an immunity, or at least become less sensitive.
It's pretty bad, as you can't take any allergy medication or anything. So there you are suffering in the middle of allergy season, then they inject more into you, and your itching, sneezing, coughing, eyes watering, and there's nothing you can do about it.
If you really want to help your friend get rid of your cat, or go over to his place.
Actually, I've been getting allergy shots for a few years now, and they work wonders... pollen was BAD, couldnt go outside without getting all stuffy and eyes watering, now it's gone. And only a few animals (my friend's german shepard is the only one i can think of) still manage to set my allergies off, where a few did before.
I tried allegra and zyrtec, neither one did jack for me

Might I suggest a product I found very helpful? My vet told me to try "Allerpet" when I moved in with my boyfriend, as he was allergic to cats. It is a liquid that you rub into the cat's fur that cleanses their hair of the allergens (saliva & dander) that bother people like your friend. My boyfriend was able to stay reaction free even with the cat living with him, and eventually I could quit using the allerpet as he built up a tolerance and Harrison quit bothering his allergies. My vet's technician also had great success with the product. Her husband was deathly allergic to her dogs--using allerpet for dogs consistently, he eventually was able to snuggle his nose into the dog's fur with no reaction, and she was able to wean down the number of times she had to use it in the dog's coat as her husband built up a natural tolerance.
Not sure if you can get it only a vet's office or not, but I think it is definitely worth a try to help you and your friend. It comes in a 12 oz bottle, it is called allerpet "c" (for cats) and it is made by a company called VPL (Veterinary Products Laboratories). I think it was like $12 a bottle? Feel free to email me or message me on this post if I can offer more information!! [img]smile.gif[/img] There should be no need to "get rid of" your beloved cat or watch your friend suffer--if I can help by connecting you with this stuff, I am more than glad to.
By the way, I too have bad allergies. I have had them since I was 8--pollen, trees, grasses, metals, fragances, dust, foods...you name it and I am probably allergic to it. Allegra D and Flonase or Rhinocort have worked for me. I have gone from pills everyday and antibiotics for sinus infections how many times a year to barely getting sick at all now--other than the normal times like spring pollen--but I just start taking my meds early in order to prevent getting sick. [img]smile.gif[/img] I am thinking about shots to help combat the environmental allergens completely, but it won't do anything for the food allergies. I miss peanut butter!
