Calling him a selfish ***** because he doesn't want to take in this kid is very unfair. You're a great guy IF you decide to take in the 3-year old, but I think it's understandable if you don't want to. You said money isn't the #1 issue, but things will be tighter with the second kid. That could be unfair to your 16-month old. If I was in your shoes I'd be thinking first and foremost about MY KID. My heart goes out to the poor child, but no one should be guilt-tripped by society to take on such a great responsibility. I would still encourage you to do it though, if your heart is truly in it. If you're not in 110% don't do it though, because then you might resent your wife and the child for it.

The word COMPROMISE comes to my mind. That's what relationships are all about. You two need to come to some sort of agreement and meet in the middle rather than creating a "push-pull" situation with each other.
