• Anyone know where to by Dell laptop parts? online?

I am pretty sure my hard drive is broken on my Dell lap top. How does this happen? I called dell and they said it burnt out and I need a new one. I looked on their site and a 40Gb one was about $140. But on ebay I found a few 60gb and 80gb for around the same price. Does it matter where I buy it from? Also can you upgrade a lap top just like a desktop? I want to upgrade it so it load games faster. When I play Doom 3 and Battlefield Vietnam it lags and is real slow somemtimes. What parts can I upgrade so the graphics look great and it loads fast? Do you guys know any good stores online? Thanks. Oh I have a Inspiron 8500, with a pentium 4 at 2.2 ghz, 512mb of ram and a Radeon ATI 9000 video card.

i dont think you can do anything with the vidoe card

as long as that HD works with dell laptops it should be fine!!

you can upgrade the ram to 1024MB but thats the peak for it !!

That's just the way laptops work. They're meant for convenience, not to run fast. The harddrive is going to be one of your biggest bottle necks. They only spin to around 4600 RPM, while desktop hdd spin at 7200, allowing them to read/write data faster. If you want a gaming computer, either buy a good desktop, or an Alienware laptop ($2,000+)

check http://www.pricewatch.com for replacement harddrives. That and RAM are the only things you could upgrade.

Any computer parts: www.newegg.com <--- Go there. I've spent lots of $$$ there, and recomend them to anyone, they kick ***, fast as hell shipping, and some of the best prices. And if you need help staying awake on the computer, check out the caffine section at: thinkgeek.com

eBay is good, I think any 2.5" hard drive will work for you. That's a pretty good video card, I think, but it's a little on the old side. These new-fangled games might just be too much for it. Solution? Get a desktop.
