Why doesn't today's youth (namely ricers) have the same amount of respect for muscle cars that the youth (now grown adults) did during the muscle car era?98 Cayenne Red Camaro 3.8 M5
http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/camarolover98

I don't know the exact definitions of a true "muscle car", but I can tell you why they stopped manufacturing as many. The main reason is practicality. It's common knowledge that a "muscle car" is typically louder, has higher insurance, and consumes much more gas than, say, a toyota tercel. To me, the decline in interest in the "muscle car" started in the mid to late 70's when gas prices were going through the roof. This is when smaller and more economical cars started gaining popularity. Then it picked back up during the 80's after gas prices stabilized. But then again, that's what the 80's was all about....fast cars, fast women, and alcohol :D But today, due to high insurance, high gas prices, decreased production (a result of the first two things listed), and the increased costs of cars in general, sports and muscle cars have become more of a "luxury" type item. Hope this helps....2000 3.8L Firebird, Silver Metallic

\"Yes, London. You know, fish, chips, cup o\' tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary f***in\' Poppins, London!!\"

muscle cars where family cars with big engines
but yes, your right about why they died out. gas was an issue in the late 70s
i think the reason the muscle car intrest died was cause of gas and emissions, the power of the car got lower and lower and that was what it was all about. the only fast car i can think of out of the 80s was the GN. except the special cars like the TT TA
