When I took chemistry I did a report on internal combustion engines. There was quite a lot about it on the internet. I also did things in it on turbos & other things like that.

yea, i did a science project on alt. fuel vehicles (electric, hybrid, natural gas, hydrogen, etc)


had to be like 10 pages. i liked doin it cause it was car related

that shear-thickening fluid stuff is pretty cool.

If you want to keep it car-related, go with magneto-rheological fluid. it's the stuff that's in the new 'Vette shock absorbers. when it's magnetized, it becomes a flexible solid. turn the current off, and it becomes fluid again.

i saw a comparison test on Speed Channel one time, they took two '04 Vettes, one with the MR fluid shocks and one with normal springs...


...then they drove them at about 65 MPH over a bump in the road, and a pothole. the normal Vette caught air off the bump, and the driver nearly lost his teeth hitting the pothole.

the MR-equipped 'Vette rolled over the bump like it was nothing. the body of the car didn't even move. same for the pothole. it is an amazing material. they then went to Rod Millen Motorsport's HQ to do some more testing, and they actually showed the fluid in action. it's this metallic-dark gray color...they had it in a pan, and then put a small magnet into it and turned on the current. the fluid jumped onto the magnet, and took the shape of the magnet (it had several ridges in it). then the current was turned off, and the fluid just dropped off the magnet. it was like watching the T-1000 from terminator 2. very cool.
