• Got a job.

As many of you know from this thread

http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ulti...c;f=6;t=024181

I was laid off two weeks ago. My title was Logistics Analyst for a privately-held educational corporation and what I mostly did was procurement and inventory cost accounting.

Well, I didn't want to say anything for fear of jinxing my luck but last week I had and interview for a Financial Analyst position with a publicly-traded on NASDAQ (read: successful company) IT firm. The phone interview was Wednesday, the two hour in-person interview was Thursday, Friday and Monday they spoke to my references, and this Tuesday (two days ago) I received a FedEx overnight envelope with a written, signed offer letter.

This position has a lot more responsibility and a lot more growth potential/promotion prospects--and its exactly the field I want to be in (corporate finance). Responsibilities:

</font>
• Provide financial analysis that offers meaningful insight into the business and recommend appropriate action to enable management to more effectively manage the division or department.</font>
• Develop various metrics and other analysis tools in order to understand revenue and cost drivers.</font>
• Prepare monthly financial reports and provide variance analyses from data obtained from various financial systems.</font>
• Create and support new and current financial models including revenue, compensation and spending.</font>
• Assist in developing, preparing, and delivering the Company's annual operating plan, strategic plan and monthly forecasting.</font>
• Responsible for ad-hoc projects and analyses as needed.</font>

Commute is ten minutes, base salary is better, plus a 10% bonus paid quarterly, plus full benefits, plus 1750 stock options on signing and more every year, 19 DAYS paid time off per year (in addition to 8 company paid holidays)... a friggin month of vacation per year? I used to get 4 days!

But the best part? I was given a relatively generous severance package (two months' pay) from when I was laid off... and that direct deposits tomorrow... and I start Monday at the new company. So in addition to the layoff being incentive for me to get my career moving, it was a nice chunk of change as a bonus. :D :D :D

Ah, now to enjoy my final two days sitting at home on my *** all day. ;)

Sounds like loosing your job was a blessing in disguise, though, I'm guessing you would have left your old job for this one anyway.

so basically what I read was something about you being able to buy a house with a garage now to let the birds have their down time... is that about right?

congrats man!

Congrats! This **** happens for a reason, and now you know why.

6 months ago I had a similar revalation: I was offered a job making a little less money for a much better, more prestigous company, doing graphic design (what I enjoy doing), instead of hocking cell phones on comission. It was 2 days after the offer on our hosue was accepted.

I almost didn't take it, but I decided to take it and the paycut, only to have it more than made up with better benefits, and awesome fringe benefits, and a much better stress level.

Best of luck!

-Mike
