  • Ace Combat 5

Well, I got it yesterday and have already beaten it (on easy, of course... no need to get frustrated over a new game!) Here's the kicker though: I managed to get my hands on the bundle version that has the Hori FlightStick 2. Fortunately my local Gamestop had an extra one in and I hadn't preordered in advance. 20,000 bundles will be made and that's apparently it.

The price? $129.99, $140 even after tax... ouch. Thank God my Wife loves me, she was going to order one online and told me to check the stores. I wouldn't have purchased it without her ok (it's a belated birthday present, I was originally going to get just the game without the flightstick, but she wanted to get me the bundle, she's the best!)

The verdict? Totally worth every penny. Apparently the flightstick can be used with Ace Combat 4 (best one in the series, even compared to AC 5) and with the proper driver it can be used on the PC without issues. What a deal! Here's a link to the bundle info:
    Details: http://www.pgnx.net/news.php?page=full&id=6341
    Picture: http://www.psx2.com/media.psx2.com/i...ightstick2.jpg (huge!)
Every button works except the small black switch above and just behind the large red button on the throttle control. Ergonomics and control is great and the flightstick is very precise.

Ha! And what does GTA: SA have going for it, huh? Oh, maybe gamers that aren't so broke and still not done beating it, huh? LOL!

Either Hori (never heard of them) got some help from Saitek, or they straight up copied the X36/X45.

If you want to fly a real flight sim, get Falcon 4 for the PC and use SuperPAK 4.

The most realistic flight sim I actually liked a lot was Longbow.

Oh I know the AC series aren't realistic, but they do have great stories (something you don't really find in real flight sims) and are quite a bit of fun. Yeah, I noticed the design resembled the Saitek flight controls, that's why I got the package. I've always wanted one of their control systems, just never had a real reson to get one.

On the whole AC4 and AC5 are just a really good time with great stories (you'll see a bit of rehash of some of the mission types from AC4 in AC5, but it's not a bad thing.)

EDIT: I think the design was contracted out, but I don't remember who was contracted (probably Saitek), that info's on a message board that's down for maintenance. I'm sure they didn't blatantly copy it without permission, though.

You know, now that I think about it I must have played either 1 or 2 way back in the day. I thought it was pretty cool.

If you've got a buddy with a PS2, rent AC4 and check it out. It's come a long way!

Unfortunately, I lost the keyboard map, and it needs pure DOS to run (which XP doesn't have) so I can't play it anymore. My dad is a retired Apache pilot :D
