I hope MT doesn't mind me posting this, but I did purchase the issue, so here you go...

Dodge makes upgrades
As tested:

Both 5-speed manual trans.

HP
Cobalt 205 @ 5600rpms
SRT4 230 @ 5300rpms

Torque
Cobalt 200 @ 4400rpms
SRT4 250 @ 2200rpms

Weight
Cobalt 2959lbs
SRT4 2921lbs

0-60
Cobalt 6.1
SRT4 6.0

0-100
Cobalt 15.4
SRT4 13.8

1/4 mile
Cobalt 14.4 @ 99.3mph
SRT4 14.4 @100.8mph

The Cobalt did run a faster lap around the 1.6 mile road course, and had better 60-0 braking, while the SRT4 had the better figure-8 time and 600ft slalom avg. speed.

And yes, they did mention the various upgrades the Dodge offers, as well as the ones that GM offers too.

Yeah...just remember thought that the SRT4 is much faster! Look at the 0-100 time. I know everytime that i used to race on the street i got to at LEAST the top of 3rd which is 90ish.
Also remember that it is way eaiser to get the extra power out of...SRT4 with a turbo back, intake and a boost controler runs mid to low 13s at the track...i seriously doubt we will see that out of the same amount of money on the cobolt. I am a unbiast guy...i hate them both!

I don't understand this.

0-100
Cobalt 15.4
SRT4 13.8

1/4 mile
Cobalt 14.4 @ 99.3mph
SRT4 14.4 @100.8mph

So it traps at 100.8 in the 1/4 mile at 14.4 seconds, but its 0-100 time is 13.8??? That's like wiping before you poop, it don't make no sense!

are we missing something. 14.4 @ 100.8 but does 100 in 13.8sec...doesn't add up for the SRT

14.4 @ 99.3 but 15.2 to 100...doesn't add up

Seems like we've padded numbers. Plus I find it amusing an 03 SRT (with no limited slip) does a 5.5 0-60 and 13.9 in the same magazine.

I think they're trying to take the wind out of the sails of the Neon enthusiasts. Something tells me maybe MT harbors some dark feelings against the little Econobox that Could?

Hmmm. It's gotta be the SEXXAY factor that allows it to make such strange numbers. Maybe the driver got caught up in the SEXXYness of it all and forgot how to launch?

It might not be quite as fast as the SRT4, but im still very impressed with the cobolt ss and its 99 mph trap.

It should be rather easy to upgrade, the m62 superchargers pulleys are keyed and much easier to change than L67 M90 pulleys. Im sure HP tuners will come out with software for it.

They blamed it on the SRT4 being brand new. I'll find the quote in the article when I get home.

no 3rd redlines at 90.

Oh and for who thinks it'll do 14.4 @ 99, care to explain why it takes 15.2 to get to 100 in that test? I have a feeling it's more like a 14.4 @ 96/97.

theres def something wrong with the 1/4 mile and 0-100 times.

this is worse than when car and driver had the shoot out between the ls2 gto and the 05 mustang. the gto beat it in almost everycatogory
but then they have the mustang gt like 9 points for the "gotta have it fun factor" so the gt beat it it the test. i was pissed when i seen that.
