• Brother inlaw gets 93 Z28....(thumbs down)

Well he bought it for 4500 with 80K miles. Its a dark red with no mods. I took for a test drive and was not impressed. It felt just a little faster then my car. When I gave the engine a rev in park it took a long time to red line (about 2.5 seconds). My car hits red line in under a second. I told him Id help him find the lost power. We changed the wires, plugs, Air filter, belt, oil/filer, cleaned the TB. The plugs all looked good except for number 8 which was very black. I think its just a gaskit issue (will fix later). So after all that I take it back out and it still feels slugish. Could this just be the way a LT1 feels. I have driven a couple LS1's and that engine is a monster when put next to an LT1. Are LT1's really that slow?

LT1's aren'y really that great. It prolly isn't running well, most likely in the Mid 14's. Your sig says you ran a 14.9 so it isn't much faster than your car after all.

The LT1 never did impress me either.

I would check out the Crapti-spark and the cat, like others said. Also check compression in all cyls (but pay especially close attention to cyl #8) and make sure that he's not sporting a burnt valve, bad sealing valve, or bad ring seal.

At least he didn't buy a Civic though

When my dad was buying my mom a camaro in 1994 he test drove a z28 twice and v6 twice. His response "There really isnt that much difference in speed between the 6 and the 8 plus the insurance is cheaper".

If you find a good running LT1, which ive only seen like 3 instances of, they pull hard as crap. My buddies has 125K on the clock, some exhaust and an MSD, and it pulls hard as hell.

Now another friend of mine had an auto 93 Z28, and that thing was slow as balls.

Check the gears, alot of those came with ****ty 2.73's which can kill it off the line. I drove a 94 Z28 with the 2.73 rear end and it sucked. Lt1's were not big monsters though but take it out on the highway and play around.

Yeah, I'd definitely check on the gears. I rode in my buddy's once and wasnt impressed either. I think he had 3.42s, but then again he didnt really get on it much either.

I was going to say that. I drove one a couple of times already and it felt slow to me. I felt that my 3.42 stock bird felt faster or the 89 trans am gta felt much faster. It's probably the gear.

Its a 1993. Those are the red-headed stepchild of the 4th gens. That car isn't even MAF, its speed density for one thing.
