Here is my strange, strange story...

I'm driving to Kent from Cleveland (about an hour on I-480). As soon as I get on the highway, I pass a Chevy S10 with OSU vanity plates. After a while, I notice that he's following me... close, but not particularly close. He changes lanes with me, doesnt back off, doesn't pass, doesn't come too close.

We're going 70 in a 60. I step it up in 5mph increments to see what he does. He follows me all the way up to 95. I decided not to go any faster because we were coming up on traffic. As soon as I can take a closer look at the traffic we're approaching, I realize that the car directly in front of me (probably about a quarter mile) has a low profile light bar. It's a white car in an area which uses blue police vehicles, but I'm not feeling that ballsy. I slow down and eventually lose track of the light-barred vehicle.

The S10 is not satisfied going 70, so he passes me and decided to make very fast lane changes to progress slowly through traffic while I'm cruising in the left lane with about the same success. Just after a particularly close lane change by the S10, I notice a police car in a dark area in the median. No lights, very stealthy.

After a little while and an interchange or two (staying on 480), traffic clears and the S10 is still with me. I decide to see how fast he might like to go. This time I go very fast, but not downshifting. I left off when I see he's not going to catch up. We go 72-73 (now in a 65) for a while before I start to wonder if I could lose him once and for all. This time I downshift and let her rip. I'm not even sure he tried to keep up that time, but I got somewhere around 115 and slowed down. He caught up to me while I was doing 70 and about then I see two cars parked in the breakdown lane.

Getting closer, I notice that these are two police cruisers. No lights. I pass them hugging the center lane (no need to move over cause they're abandoned, right?) and wonder why there are two police cars sitting on the highway unattended. No sooner did I finish that thought (and the S10 passes the cruisers) do I see one set of headlights come on. I continue going 72ish while the S10 slows with a cruiser on his butt... soon after, the strobes are on.

Did I betray my "speeding buddy?" I know I feel ashamed for breaking the law so blatently, but I can't help but feel relieved that the second "broken down" cruiser did not come after me.

Needless to say, I went slowly the rest of the way home. Quite a long post, I sure hope some of you find it interesting.

i would be happy he got pulled over. it scares me when people follow me unless its obvious they want to street race. but poeple just following me scares me. for all you know, he was going to follow you home and theres no telling what might have happened after that.

Yeah I don't like being followed. If they were speeding it wasn't your fault. They knew the risks.

I was driving once and had some guy do the same thing... just riding on my tail... changing lanes with me, etc.. so I got pissed, floored it up to 115 and just kept going for a good couple of mins... never saw him again.

I was the S10 unfortunately, in one of my persuits in my V6. The cop simply said, "Did you know the guy who you were speeding behind?" I said no, I said are you going after him. The cop said he got lucky, you're the one getting the ticket.

                Consider yourself lucky.

There were two of them, the second one could have caught up easily... if they had been parked a mile or two up the road, I probably would have passed them going over 100.

just like everyone else said, be glad he got pulled over and you didnt..and that whole thing where he followed you move for move, that stuff always freaks me out..like bulldogg said, he may have followed you home and that could have gotten ugly.

i have traveled i 95 several times at night, and usually kept up with and had a speeding buddy, following is one thing , but a speed buddy or just fellow traveler is another, some times the gazels go down (the highway is like the jungle or what ever, cars are gazels, lions are cops , we travel in packs, and some times the lions want a snack)dont feel bad Dr.
