I remember doing that when I was in Boy Scouts, I finished in third place out of 29. I had some fun making the car as well.

Shave out as much plastic out of the wheels as you can, then use the lead peice's to dring your car to max weight. And use plenty of graphite on the wheels too. Thats what we always did, and always got right in the top 2 or 3. Never got a 1st though. That was alot of fun.
