Any opinions or comments about the Pontiac Solstice?
I'm considering buying one this summer when they come out. They come with 177hp/166lb torque from the Ecotech 2.4L, 5 speed manual tranny, RWD, 50/50 weight distribution, 18" wheels. The starting price is supposed to be around 20,000

The Solstice is just a renamed Sunfire,as the Cavlier renamed to the Colbolt.I would take the Colbolt SS instead of the solstice.

x2, Solstice is worthless. Sure Ecotech. Does that mean i sort my bottles and cans before i throw them out the window?

its just a replacement for Sunfire/Firebird. Its basically GM's BmwZ3/Miata..

Built on GM’s new Kappa architecture, the production model remains true to the original Solstice concept, including rear-wheel drive, two-passenger seating and a reverse hinged clamshell hood that opens to reveal a sophisticated double overhead cam variable-valve four-cylinder engine.
NOT a replacement for the Sunfire. Not even close to the same chassis as the Sunfire/Cavalier. What's wrong with an American car company producing something that can compete with the Miata/MX-5? Isn't diversity a good thing, or do you guys think that all new cars should be RWD, front-engine cars with pushrod engines that say "Camaro" or "Firebird" on 'em?

Expand your horizons, or keyhole yourselves into loving only one type of car. Your choice. I choose to enjoy the experience of driving, no matter what I'm in.

do you think there will be as many aftermarket/performance products for the solstice as there is for sunfire and firebird?

No idea, but remember that most aftermarket companies look at things like the average age and amount of expendable income (not sure if I got that one 100% right) of the car's buyer. I'd assume the demographics of the Sunfire/Cavalier tends to put it pretty much in the area of younger buyers with quite a bit of expendable income who are willing to modify their vehicles, so aftermarket companies know the interest and money is there. Henceforth, they market pretty heavily to those cars, as there's a profit to be made.

I'd assume that the best way to look at the size of a potential aftermarket is to look at what's out there for the Miata/MX-5. If you think of it, the Solstice is being made to compete in the Miata marketplace, so the buyer would tend to be the same.

I, personally, find the Saturn Sky Roadster (same as Solstice) to be a LOT nicer looking.

I'm not crazy about the engine, but its priced nicely at around 20,000.

It's no Firebird replacement, and it's not the Sunfire's replacement, but it's a decent add-in.

I was just gonna say, the solstice is crap looking compared to the sky...

Its a cool car and a great idea, not really much in that market and whatever is sells pretty good.

I agree with L32Projekt 100%, the Solstice looks like a very cool car, and much better looking than a Miata or Sunfire. Firebird is DEAD, get over it. It's looking like the Camaro may be dead too if GM doesn't get its stuff together.

I have been dead set on getting this car since I saw the concept. I love it. I'll wait until next summer when they put a turbo in it. But it's so hard to hold out, I might just lease one for the summer, I need a new daily driver.

Wonder if I coudl drive it... 2 seater coupes don't seem to work well for my tall ***...

Sat in a S2k, couldn't move the wheel my legs were in the way, I have more space in go-carts.

Miata, there was no way I woudl ever be able to work the pedals, yet alone steer right.
