  • What do you guys think I should do?

Now I am in college, with no job... so payments are very difficult for me. I will graduate in June, but will be in grad school for a year so I can't get a car on my own until after that.

    Details about the votes:
2005 GTO: about $360 a month - gotta see if parents will help with payment
2005 Cobalt SS: about $220 a month - still need help with payments, but not much
Used Trans Am: Don't know about payments, but will not have warrenty and probably high mileage
Fix my car: 80,400 miles - needs about $100 in parts right now but I can't fix it for 6 weeks until I go home to avoid taking it to a shop.

you can find Lt1s with low mileage if you look around. my 95 has 40k on it!! ive seen alot of Ls1s in the 8-9k area lately with about 70k on the odom. id wait till you are out of school though.. makes it alot easier.

Yeah I was trying to avoid the whole optispark problem :(
I gotta talk to my parents about helping with the payment, so I don't even know if 3 of those options are possible... if my car dies then they'll help, but if I don't need help then they won't help lol

optispark isnt that bad. everyone blames optispark right off for everything. everyboard for lt1s will say"i think its the optispark" then a few days later the problem had nothing to do with the optispark. just find a 97 lt1 since that was the last one...most of the bugs were fixed by then.

Actually, wasn't the optispark upgraded to a vented system to reduce the condensation-related failures by '95?

But that's neither here nor there. You're in college without a job, and you want a new car? I like ya man, but it's time for a reality check... I'd hate to be relying on my parents for anything.

Check on insurance rates before making a decision. I think you will be better off fixing your car. Your under 25 and anything with an "SS" or a "V8" will not be cheap to insure. Thats why I ended up buying a Camaro RS instead of a Z28 back in 96

Fix yours. You take the $500 that would be like 2 months payments on something new and you will have a car that will last you another year.

I would say treat your old car like a lease... and take about $150 a month as a "payment" and put it into the car. Slowly replace worn parts.... or save it all up for a rebuild. And if you save it you will always have some ready for an unexpected repair.

You have a car just fix that, if your gonna do something do it on your own without your parents help. If your having money problems then what makes you think you can afford v8 insurance? Your gonna dig yourself into a hole. If i was you id just get something cheap until my life was in order

                          Yeah you guys are right...
I just get so frustrated with my car, it bugs me when it isn't working right and lately it hasn't been working right at all. If I fix one thing, something else goes wrong...
I don't even have the money for gaskets and header bolts right now, gonna have to ask mommy to pay for that stuff too. Thank god my dad is a mechanic, otherwise it would be a HUGE shop bill right now. Good thing I got lucky in the parental finance department LOL

I can't go home until March 24th, so I get to hear "TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK" when I drive until then.. agh, it will be toture.
