What? Who are they? 'They' is a lot of different countries with different native languages. So what do we do? Have road signs written in 20 different languages to accomodate them all?

Machiavelli, is that true that the majority of people in other countries know at least 2 to 3 languages? And is English a very common second language to them? (Im seriously asking because I dont know for sure.) It seems like a trend for most of them to know their native language, and English. So im basically making the same argument as the road signs, how do we accomodate them? Learn 20 different languages? What other specific language do you think Americans should be fluent in that would be helpful to us?

      I like the responses to this poll. It's 81% versus 21%... :D

America does speak more then one language. Look at tests offered by government institutions, look at our television and radios. Hell you can get any kind of license or even citizenship without knowing english.

Not true. You have to take classes to learn American History and be able to have a conversation in English. My Latino friend and co-worker just did this. He took some evening classes and took citizenship test.

With some exception I think, the too elderly and the too young don't have too.

I don't think that America should have multiple official languages. However, Americans should strive to learn at least one other language. I'm trying to learn French, I'm even studying abroad this next year in Paris. I hope to eventually move to Europe after graduation, for a while at least.
