Beware of gas theives!

The company that I work for has a cargo van that sits parked in an open parking lot over nights and on weekends.

Lately, theives have started siphoning gas out of the van, so my boss went out and bought a locking gas cap.

For a while we were ok, but then over the weekend, some dumbf*** drilled 2 holes into the gas tank to steal gas! :mad:

Now, not only we are out of $80 worth of gas, we also have $1,400 worth of damage to the van's gas tank which we have to replace (it can't be repaired).

My boss is furious. But there's not much that we can do other than to pay $$$ to have a fence put up, hide some cameras in the lot, or have an employee take the van over the weekend.

Actually, this happened in Concord, not Oakland. I don't think Oakland thieves would be that brazen enough to steal gas by drilling holes in the gas tank. They know that Oakland car owners will not think twice about attacking them if they get caught red-handed.

We have full coverage insurance on the van. The thing is, if we file a claim, the company's insurance rate would go up for all of the company's vehicles. It might not be worth filing a claim. :(

A few gas stealers have been caught at my work too. I don't think a locking gas cap does any good...they are simply drilling into the tank! :eek:

They haven't stole gas out of our work trucks yet, someone did steal the tailgate off my truck though.

Which doesn't really bother me much seeing as it gets me out of taking alot of returns back.
