hey guys! looking to sell and get an lt1. my cousin just got a 94 trans am lt1 but with an abused 140k miles i think its slower than it should be. i raced it and lost by like 5 cars at 90-100. so yeah.
today i went and test drove a 1996 pontiac firebird formula. with an lt1 and a 6 speed. i was alone so i was definantly testing its performance. im actually unimpressed for a v6-v8 change. but i cant afford an ls1 so im sticking with it(stangs too slow, no other v8 cars i can find/afford) this formula has 67k miles. REALLY LOW for its year. it also has stock everything. never been blessed by the aftermarket. it has a very cracked upper dash pad(almost like someon punched it in this one spot), and the steering wheel needs replaced(not leather and its all worn down and crappy) the front bumper is spider crack and needs to be replaced or fixed and repainted(for me to like it) and various other small chips/scratches i might get quotes on. it has no power windows, locks, no cruise control, no power seat . all downgrades from my v6. also it has no leather :( really sad....black cloth. the interior is in good shape, the console isnt even broken. i got a carfax thanks to dojo2000 and it has 35 focking reports. no mileage inaacuracy, no fraud or damages of any kind reported. it seems okay. it has had 7 owners. to me this seems strange. why would a 67k mile car have 7 owners? why are people getting rid of this car? so im torn on buying it or not as it is really cheap
$5400 right now in the paper and i wont buy it for that price, argue them down some more.
so lets say i get it for like 4800(possible due to the stuff that needs replacing)
i can problably sell my car for the same. what do you guys think about this?
PROS: cheap seat v8.
would be getting 30k miles less than my car has
wanted a v8 forever
easily debadged to look like firebird to roast mustangs with lol
clean carfax
CONS: downgrading to manual locks.windows.seat. NO CRUISE CONTROL(big one)
worried about the 7 owners
needs front bumper fixed
needs dash pad
needs steering wheel
it seems to vibrate ALOT at really high rpm.s near redline it just goes all wobbly(keeps accelerating so i dunno)
what would you guys do? i know that these cars can be found for similar prices on v8 sites but seriously in a year have never seen one anywhere near washington state. this one is 15 mins away.
so for the area this is the best price i have ever seeen on a v8 f-bod. opinions?
