• Who still uses COM ports?

Seriously? USB is 100x better then an old serial com port. My friggen laptop doesn't even have a com port, as probably most dont.

I'm looking at buying a personal weather station, I've always had a facination about weather, but they all use com ports to connect to my computer. Why can't they get with the times, I mean USB has only been out for 10 years...

j/k. My laptop still has a serial port and it comes in handy when I need to use my old Epson. Its an old and slow printer but it doesnt give me any annoying headaches like my new printer

Yea, but they don't always work right.

I dont see why they wouldn't. USB itself is just a glorified Serial port.

You must've just had some back luck.

I still use COM ports for some applications, mostly microcontroller programming. The DB-9 RS-232 ports are still very popular for both the industry that I work in and my hobby robots. :D

Some applications don't like USB>serial converters. I went through like 4 of them to get my autotap to work.

I know some industrial computer equipment uses serial ports, simply because of the atmospheric conditions in which some of this equipment is used. Dirty, wet conditions almost require it.
