I know a lot of cops. I shoot with a bunch of them and I don't mean a any disrespect but cops are the worst shooters I have ever seen which is shocking because their life depends on their shooting skills. This is because they only shoot when their department tells them to which is very bad.

Please go shooting at least once a week. It will make a HUGE difference in just a couple months. Your groups get smaller and your follow-up shoots get faster. Try and join a shooting club where they practice Action Pistol shooting or at least plate matches. Remember that in the end your gun is the only thing that will keep you alive in real danger. I give this advice to all my friends behind a badge. Departments and the academy just lack the shooting training that should be required for being a cop.

we used to carry our own weapons; most everyone used a colt. we went to issue glocks and overall scores dropped by 16%. sometimes it's not lack of practice.

using common sense will keep you alive. no one should stick around for a gunfight. a pistol is only a means to get away so you can call a whole lot more cops with even bigger guns.
