• Fraternities:

Ah, with school starting up again, and a few new freshmen on these boards, just wondering if anyone was in a fraternity here, and what fraternity?

I'm in Lambda Chi Alpha. Experience with it has been awesome. At first I was completely against fraternities, figured they were just a major display of homo-eroticism and that everyone in fraternities were pricks... well, practically were at my school. So a few buddies of mine and myself started up our own colony, with no stereotypes, and only close friends. We're about 30 strong now, and in a year we get chartered.

Alot of people love em... I know a bunch of peopel in fraternities(don't call them frats, they get pissy about that ;) ) But I also have met alot of a$$holes that are in fraternities. Kind of depends on each one. I met a great group of friends when I came to college, and most of my school lived off campus, so made lots of freinds in our apartment complexes and had lots of fun. Got in a couple car groupls locally and fit in great up here in Orlando. But some people are as easy going and out there as me and a fraternity is a good thing to go out and join.

Whats funny is when I was looking at frats I think the one I likely woudl have joined was Lambda Chi Alpha

Yeah, basically chose your fraternity on a local level, sounds stupid... but don't join a fraternity becuase daddy tells you his is the best. You're probably going to be with those people for 4 years, so when choosing, make sure you like the kids in the fraternity above anything else.

I could go on and on about the benefits but one of the nice things is that the fraternal bond FORCES you to be friends with people that you normally wouldn't get along with... its called training for the REAL WORLD where you have to know how to get along with absolute morons because they happen to work for the same company as you do.

my dues are $30 a year. buying friends? i dont think so.

i entered school with the "frats are gay" mindset. freshmen year, i verified that. Sorry to you Lambda Chi guys out there, but the Lambda Chi chapter at my school is the biggest bunch of fruits ever. They are so friggin ghey, and tend to use roofies to get action. Homos.

Anyway, i met these guys who were very military based in values and physical appearance, but partied their asses off. I chilled with them for a while, pledged (hardest thing ive ever done), and got in. It was the best desicion of my life.

I have contacts now that i couldnt believe. Big companies, police officers, etc. It opened up an entire new realm of parties i never knew about. Taught me a lot in the process of pledging also. Plus, the women......my god. I never knew three letters could mean so much.

My fraternity is just a bunch of badass guys who hang around, are all great friends, and have each others back.

Dont knock it till you rock it.

Oh......PS......i still think that 90% of the frats out there are gay. Seriously, they are either jocks who feel the need to fit in with other jocks and act tough drunk, or its the losers from high school who think "hey, im in college, noone knows me, i can change my 'dork' status". Thats what most of them are at my school.

I have too many friends, hense no fraternity for me!

A few of my friends are in them and they became totally lame. My cousin is in one and it runs his life. I chose not to be in one, and instead, I have free time and bought a nice car because I had time to work.

Though I do know the Pi Kappa Alpha frats know how to party. One of my close friends was in the Arizona chapter...needless to say, 70% of them failed out, and that chapter died.

I wouldn't say 90% but I did see that alot from kids that went to my school to college.

BTW to any freshmen out there, force yourself to be outgoing the moment you get there talk to chicks, and other freshmen in your classes, start hanging out same with your neighbors in your dorm or apartment however it is. Most of you guys are all new and nervous anyway, its great to meet as many people as possible and pick up some great freinds. You don't neccesarily need to join a fraternity to have fun. I do admit there are alot of hoes that like letters but they are hoes You can find hoes anywhere, car hoes, money hoes, big buff musclehead hoes, pot hoes, etc...

I have been to a few fraternity parties(not many its slighlty difficult to get into them unless you have a friend that is up a little bit in the fraternity) some of the parties were pretty good, but lots of sausage...

Some of the best parties I ever been too were in my apartment complexes over the years, much much more co-ed and sometimes women dominated(yes women throw keg parties too!!!!!)

My school is a bit large, around 40,000 so lots of people to make friends with, but if you miss the begining to start a great network of friends that will do lots of stuff for you, its easy to get overlooked and nobody notices you.

Not a fan of them myself, due to some personal experiences with some female freinds and stereotypical "frat boys", but There are some fraternities that no doubt has their merits.

I just wouldn't be a part of one. My lifestyle doesn't agree...
