Well, yesterday I went camping at Lake Texoma. I was building a fire when I heard a crack. I looked around and my friend sitting about 10 feet away asked,"was that you?" so I said,"no, sounded like someone threw something at a tree or something.
So a minute or two later I have a good stable fire going, and we decide to go down to the beach to get some firewood. We both get up and start for the beach and as we walk towards the beach a tree along the way creaks again.
We both hear it and look at the tree. Now imagine it, there is a 30ft tall tree 5ft from our tent. This is the tree that is cracking.
I stand behind the tree and my friend walks around in front of it looking at it. He looks for a few seconds and the I tell him he might want to move around where I am. He agrees and takes about three steps when the just freakin falls right over, leaving about a 6-7ft stump and the other half of the upper part of the tree. As I watched in horror the thing went straight to the ground and part of it hit our tent. The wierd part is it just hit the tent and broke over it, the rest of the tree fell parallel to the tent and the upper branches shattered into fire sized pieces.
Later we threw a rope over the other part of the tree and pulled it over. It apparently was rotty too so it just came right over.
So, my friend almost was smashed, we got all the firewood you could ask for without leaving the campsite, and we saved ourselves possible death by taking the other half down (it came down a nice thunderstorm from about 5-8am this morning).
We left the campsite around 6 something. It's not fun to pack a soaking tent in the rain. That tree and then the thunderstorm(which filled up the tent with water somehow) was enough to send us home, but only after getting texas lotto tickets.
