My thoughts, RX-7 most unreliable and crappy, Nissan 300Z TT, next in unreliable.
Supra great car... but ungodly overpriced for what you are getting an old beat up ~8-10 year old sports car.
They are all great cars once built and running right. But besides the supra are the others are known for unreliability and cost small fortunes to keep running(make f-bodies look like toyota camrys)
So may not be practical unless you happen to be crapping money.
concisder a fat down payment and better financing on a new Evo or STi?

I have an '86 rx-7 with 132k miles on the motor and it's still running strong, chirping the tires in third gear. I't has a 7k redline with a 8400 fuel cutoff. You can get a series 4 ('86-'88, although the turbo 2s started in '87), in good condition for $6,000 (really good condition) or less. If you wanted a third gen rx-7, those are in the price range of $12-20. With those engines, n/a's will last longer, but whatever you do to it with mods will net more hp than with a piston engine (a basic streetport that costs $200 will generally give you a 20-30% increase in hp).If you have any other questions about tghe rx-7's, just let me know2000 silver A4 Camaro
Whisper lid; Free Ram Air; BMR stb; MSD super conductor wires; Gatorback belt?
1986 RX-7 (daily driver)

only reason rotories chirp in third is cause the shift brings it from like 10,000rpm to 7000, so of course its gonna chirp with rpm's like that, and the higher power up in the band.
boosted rotaries suck unless you sink tons of money into them.
300ZX's are sweet, and can be made real fast. but parts for them are soooooooooo friggin expensive. like, plugs alone are $12 a piece.
Supra TT would be my choice. Sound decent too. Buddy of mine has one with 4" exhaust, and it sounds fairly good. plus, they got an indestructible bottom end.

My rx-7 only has 138 ft-lbs of torque stock though, and it has a siezed actuator2000 silver A4 Camaro
Whisper lid; Free Ram Air; BMR stb; MSD super conductor wires; Gatorback belt?
1986 RX-7 (daily driver)

OK **** the imports now, i just realized how much they are going to cost me! I found a 95 Camaro for 2000, 5 speed (yay!). I don't know if it has power anything, its purple and it has those ugly hubcaps. But hey, its a way for me to get back into f-bodies. Put some chrome 10 spokes, a turbo built motor and Tiagos kit.... woo fun!1995 Patriot Red T-Topped Z28 A4

Mystery rebuild in progress.

Soon to have 383 ways to beat KBreezy and Shane. :D

Don't go by the reliability of n/a rotaries from the 80s...
Its like comapring an ls1 vs. a TBI 305... much different setup, but still basically in a way based off the same block.
RX7s break and cost fortunes to fix
300zs aren't too reliable(what 10 year old sports car is?) and are expensive to fix.
Supra is a little more durable, and a little cheaper to get parts for but overall still costs alot.
Honestly with the money you may be looking to put away for these cars ever consider new cars? STi, EVO? maybe even a used C5?

granted, to get a rebuild done on a rotary does usually start around $2k. However, they are quite reliable. This is a video of a couple of guys that kill a rotary. It had a dead rotor with no compression, and they peg it at 9k for over six minutes before it finally dies. I think that's pretty reliable. What's wrong with the reliability of the '80s rx-7s though? I'm not saying that the car is a god or anything, I was just saying for the money, you get a lot of performance (being that an '87 turbo2 outperforms an srt-4 and generally costs between $2k-$6k)
