Well I just bought a bench a couple months ago. Started out benching about 160 and weighing about the same (I'm 6'1 btw). Now I'm up to 171 lbs and max benched 210 yesterday. I was stoked just getting into the 200's but now I want more lol. It feels so good to finally get results from lifting. I just have to keep eating ALL the time.

And yes - trust me, sure you are on your toes, but if you can do a pushup you CAN bench your weight - unless ofcourse if your a pansyass ;)
BTW: I love how a lot of you guys are benching double your weight. I hope to be seeing you all in my next copy of Muscle & Fitness ;)
I know I can walk in there and put up about 170, but I am not much of a benchpressing guy. I just do curls, shrugs, and a few other things I don't know the names of (for triceps and back)
I guess the curling might help my bench, right? Since its technically the same muscle.. even tho bench has a lot of chest involved.
I workout out with 70 lbs on the curl bar (all the weight I have :( ) 4 sets of 12...
And also, yes, I agree about people benching double their body weight lol. No offense to you guys, but I am sure a few of you added on a few extra lbs to your max bench Sinister Six©
My \'95 Bird
I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.

Back when I was in good (or at least better) shape, I weighed in at 125lbs and max benched only like 150ish, but I could also go out and run 10 miles without hardly being winded at the end.
Im now 140ish and just starting back in at the gym. No idea max, but I rep 120-140 depending on the day, more than I was working with when I considered myself 'in shape'.\'01 Mineral Grey SVT Cobra
-former F-body owner

Tricep extentions would help your bench. I benched 355 at a body weight of 162 when I was 19. Then didn't work out for a while. Last summer at age 34 and a body weight of 210 I benched 365, and haven't worked now since last August since I got full custody of my son. I can probably get about 250 or so now, and if I was to get back in the Gym and start working out regularly again. I could be over 300 again in a month or 2 once I got all of the soreness worked out.. ;)2000 Firebird. Back when I was in the Army I weighed 185 and benched 205.
Now about the only weights I lift are of the 12 oz variety so I would be lucky to lift the bar

My chest was in general "the weakest link" if you'd have it like that.
Mind you, I threw 88mph my senior year of HS...
I only maxed at 165 on freeweights, weighing 160 :(
repped 240 on the hammerstrength flat bench (lopsided body much?)
but i shrugged i think 235? that impressed a few people... I also squatted 335 :D Not bad for a chicken legger like myself (anyone who's seen me in my workout garb), who nobody suspects can't bench but can squat  :( :D2011 Camaro LS 6M, in black.

I have never maxed out because I don't want to be disappointed to be quite honest, I now weigh between 200 and 205, I am working out with 225 I have lost about 55 lbs in the last year or so and when I first started working out then 145 was kinda tough, but my strength came up fast and I dropped lbs, want to drop about 15 or so more lbs and add about 25-30 more to my bench as far as working out weight.
oah on a side note I swear I can tell my car seems to have a little more pep with 55 less lbs in the driver seat..-Brad
