Buy a fuel efficient car and get punished with taxes.

States are worried that if you run out and buy fuel efficient cars. They will lose out on all that gas tax money, so they are now gonna charge you by the mile. With big penalties for rush hr driving.

Government and EPA are forcing cleaner fuel saving cars down our throat but the state are only concerned about their income form gas tax???

    Punished for saving fuel???

Punished for doing the right thing???

People will end up rebuilding old 10MPG gas guzzlers out of the junk yard just to save money.

how would driving a gas guzzler lower your tax if you are taxed by the number of miles that you drive?

The government has to get their money from somewhere. If they raised the property tax to cover the loss revenue would you complain? Taxing the people who actually use the roads instead of taxing everyone, some of which don't drive, is a brilliant idea in my opinion. If you want to use it, pay for it.

thats the point, one of the reasons gas is so high priced is that the states tax the living piss out of it. by going with a more fuel efficent car you sorta get aroung the tax by buying less gas. now that will not even matter if that is put into effect

Who the fvck doesn't use roads? Besides, They are taxing gas, why would you buy gas if you aren't driving.

This is the most rediculous idea I've ever heard. Let's just make every road a toll road.

That's already happening in the orlando area - ordinary surface roads - notlimited-access highways are now toll roads (South Goldenrod Road & Osceola Parkway for starters). And how about that $2.00 toll plaza in Sanford on the Greeneway? Its like about $6 one way in tolls from I-4 to OIA on the Greeneway.

Yeah to get to OIA from here I have to take the 429 (toll), Florida Turnpike (toll, and the Bee Line (toll). expensive as hell.

The part about driving during rush hour is freakin STUPID. If you get off work at 5, what do they want you to do, wait 2 hours before you go home? EVERYBODY GETS OFF WORK AT THE SAME TIME, thats why there is traffic!!! Pretty freakin rediculous.

Whoever said everybody uses roads is exactly correct. Even if you don't drive on them yourself, you are bound to buy a product or service that has made use of the road in some capacity.

                        Very true.

It would definately be easier if they increased sales tax or something, but whatever. Hopefully they won't do this pump tax thing, I think they just need to figure out other forms of funding. They've done it before, they can do it again (if there is any hint of intelligence).

</font>[/QUOTE]I wrote that wrong. I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I said taxing everyone who uses the roads instead of those who don't, is a great idea. I meant the people who drive more on the roads should be taxed more.

Anyways, I still think it's a great idea. The government still has to make up for the lost revunues because the fuel efficent cars aren't buying enough gas. If I'm not mistaken a good deal of the 18.3% tax goes towards highways. If they're not taking in the same amount of money they probably can't maintain the highways anymore.

And we do basically pay a toll to drive on the roads. Unless you refine your own gasoline you're paying for the roads.
